Tazumal, Chalchuapa Stake

Elder Cristian Alfaro

Week 14: Rough week. Interesting? You could call it that.

After writing last week we went to Santa Ana to eat at McDonalds but, before we went to McDonalds, we stopped at a bank and I was just sitting there waiting for the other elder to finish getting his money and whatnot when a guy came and sat next to me on the bench and he started flirting with me... I've never felt so uncomfortable in my life.
We went to a part of our area that we've never been to before and it didn't take long for me to figure out why we hadn't visited before. As soon as we entered the colony we were followed by gangsters and at one point they were about within arms reach before we turned a corner and there were more people. I've never focused so hard on just praying and walking so much before! Thankfully we made it through without any accidents.
We have a family that I've been working with since I got here and they've been really positive but we got them married a couple weeks ago but we visited them Sunday and they had watched a video filled to the brim with apostasy and now they don't want to get baptized. It was so weird what the Hermana was saying because she was reading scriptures out of the bible that we totally believe, in fact they are pretty core to our religion, but she was reading them to us as if they were lies. The only reason she is still reading the Book of Mormon is because she had a dream where God told her that she could only be baptized after she reads the whole book. Right now she's so confused and I have no idea what she believes right now becuase she talks about her dreams, this video, her daughter, and the book of mormon. all of them say different things but some of them connect but she doesn't see the connection. Anyway, super rough and heartbreaking. They had a baptismal date for this Saturday but they probably won't be baptized then. IDK I'll be praying for a miracle.
I'm getting really worried about having to leave this area after my training because I really love the people here and I still feel like I'm just getting started but I guess that happens to all the missionaries every 6 or so weeks.
I think the only thing more that I want to say is that all of the answers aren't on the internet. If you ever have a question about something, the best thing to do is find the answer yourself through the scriptures and earnest prayer. I know that we like to just go to the internet to solve our problems but there are so many degrading things on the internet filled with many craftily formed lies. I have a testimony that our Father wants us to ask him and that He will answer and His answers are infinitely better than any found on the internet. unless it's found on 😋 I love you all! Peace!
