This week can only be described as miraculous! The Lord has blessed us incredibly over the course of this transfer, and this week has been by far the most amazing week of my mission up until now. As you are all probably well aware, my companion and I have been putting an ever-increasing focus on using the Book of Mormon in our missionary work. Specifically and especially within the first contact. The Book of Mormon has been called the keystone of our religion by the Prophet Joseph Smith, and that teaching has been repeated by every succeeding President of the church. Well, since the Book of Mormon is so important in our religion, we figured that the first thing that people should know when we introduce them to the church is that we have "The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ", and that through reading/studying its pages we can find the aswer to any question, concern, or worry that weighs down upon our minds and hearts. And I know that every time we share that knowledge with someone, the Spirit is there to testify of the truthfulness our words. Truly, the great promise of the Book of Mormon is that it contains the Fullness of the Everlasting Gospel. As we learn of that Gospel, we will grow closer to God. When we grow closer to God and follow His commandments, we have the opportunity to receive personal revelation and gain a knowledge of the "truthfulness of all things". Thus, through reading the Book of Mormon we can find an answer to all our questions, because it provides the pathway for us to receive our answers from the souce of all truth Himself, our Heavenly Father.
Well, after that rather long introduction, let me give you a quick rundown of this week:
-this week we were able to do service picking plums again, and it was way fun! We also helped in the process of washing and sorting the plums we picked. I think we will be able to do it again next week. Right now is a really busy season for plums, and so we're hoping to find more people willing to accept our help. Most people seem to think it's too hard for us to do, but now that we've successfully done it twice maybe that will change their minds about it.
-we had a crazy 5 hour weekly planning meeting. Because we also had district meeting and 2 hours of lessons that day, we didn't end up leaving the church at all that day. Despite the fact that we didn't hand out any copies of the Book of Mormon that day, we still ended the week with an average of 3 a day! That's a huge miracle!
-speaking of the Book of Mormon, as of yesterday we have handed out a total of 83 copies this transfer. We only have 7 left in order to reach our original goal! I feel it necessary to note that when we first set this goal it seemed completely unattainable. However, it seemed like the goal the Lord wanted us to set, so we did it and the miracles began to flow.
-the biggest miracle for this week is that we found 25 new investigators! I actually don't think I can accurately explain how much of a miracle that is, so suffice it to say 25 is a pretty big number!
I know that all of our success has come from the Lord. He has said "Behold, I will hasten my work in its time”, and what we are "beholding" in Tanabe is that very thing. The Lord is actively engaged in his work. If we choose to be anxiously engaged and ready to be an instrument in His hands, we will see his hand.
Well, that's about it for now. Hope you all have a wonderful week! Until next time.
