First Week of the Missionary Training Center (MTC)

Over the course of our life, we have been blessed with numerous spiritual experiences but this week has been the greatest extended spiritual experience we have ever had. I could write a volume just with all the amazing things from this week but I won't. Instead, I'd like to mention a couple of things from this week:
1) On Wednesday night, we had a devotional meeting which played clips from a talk that the Apostle David A Bednar gave at the MTC many years ago entitled "The Character of Christ." In the Book of Mormon, in Mosiah 3:19, it states that "the natural man is an enemy to God . . . unless he yields to the enticings of the Holy Spirit, and putteth off the natural man and becometh a saint through the atonement of Christ the Lord . . . ." The Character of Christ is always about Love, Service, and Compassion while the natural man is selfish, self-centered and self-absorbed (Unfortunately I recognize that I spend way too much time in the natural man camp). As we try to serve our master Jesus Christ, we seek His help to put off the natural man and become more like Him.
2) My mother and father went through the MTC many years ago and when I was talking to my mother this week, she said that she learned a little bit of what heaven might be like from being in the MTC as you associate with so many good people, feel God's presence and experience amazing joy and happiness. I agree with her. To hear the stories of faith and sacrifice by so many of these elderly missionaries has been amazing. There is never a convenient time to leave our home, our children and grandchildren, and our lives to go to an unfamiliar place to love, serve and have compassion for God's children on this earth.
3) We were able to go the Provo Temple on Thursday night with the other Senior Missionaries and to go to the Provo City Center Temple on Saturday morning. These are holy places where we can feel closer to God and bring hope because of the eternal ordinances found there that can bring families together forever.
Best week ever and look forward to one more week in the MTC. See you next week.
