this week was full of service and old people! first off I wanna start off with story that basically hypes up my
companion Elder Rangwanasha!! So, this returned sister missionary who just got home, her name is Mandy and shes like 29 but she looks like she is 13, anyways, she was showing my companion and i some people in the
area who were good referrals and potential people to teach, and as we were heading to visit this person, we wanted to stop by this tuck shop, which was by the chapel, and where we were at, we had to either go on
the road that we got ran down by cows, we'll call that road, "cow road", and the road that i talked about last time, "5 Rand road". 5 rand road is kind of just this trail that goes through this little canyon and then through a field, and cow road is an actual road. but both of these roads lead to the same place but for some reason i had a
feeling that we should take the cow road, even though what had recently occurred there hahaha. Anyways, we take cow road and as we are walking across cow road, we hear this screeching scream from 5 rand road, and we look down and its these two girls, and this one guy, and
they look like the are just like play fighting so we keep our eye on them and then realize that they are actually fighting/arguing about something. anyways, we keep walking and as we are walking we can tell that the two girls are the daughters of this lady that we are teaching
and Elder Rangwanasha knows them very well and they are like family to him, so he immediately drops his bag and SPRINTS down the hill into this valley towards the girls and as he is running i am hearing Dolly, the daughter, yell "HES GOT A GUN" and Elder Rangwanasha keeps
sprinting, meanwhile i am crapping my pants watching this all happen. At this point we have all realized that Dolly and Zey are getting robbed by this teenager, Elder Rangwanasha in sprinting towards a parra (thug, robber, etc.) who has a gun, and if i run after elder Rangwanasha and he gets shot, ill get shot too, and then the parra will go for Mandy (who is the girl showing us the way to our next potential investigator). So i made the smarter decision to stay with Mandy in case the guy started to come towards us i could try to stop him. Now, Elder Rangwansha gets down there and CONFRONTS THE PARRA, GETS DOLLY'S PHONE BACK, AND SAVES THE DAY!! it was so cool. after the parra ran off, elder Rangwanasha came back up the hill and is smiling
and says "alright lets go get some lunch". and i just stood there and started clapping and applauding him hahaha. but yes that was scary and we later found out the the gun had no bullets cause dolly said she saw that it wasn't loaded and she thought that the gun was maybe fake. But we were truly protected in that moment and i know that the savior wont let anything happen to his missionaries other than letting them get robbed while they are asleep!!:)
this past week i was able to teach more lessons and kind of lead the discussions! i was able to prepare a FHE lesson which i gave to like 3 different families. I decided to teach about the Atonement of Jesus Christ, because it is the absolute most important thing that we will ever learn about. In the first lesson, it went really well and the
spirit was just so strong and everyone was just starring at me and it was so quiet, it was so awesome i love teaching about the atonement of Jesus Christ!! but the second lesson was the best, i started teaching and part of my lesson was Alma 7:11&12 which says, "And he shall go forth, suffering pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind; and this that the word might be fulfilled which saith he will take upon him the pains and the sicknesses of his people/ and he will take upon him death that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people' and he will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities" and this girl just lost it and started bawling, and after she gathered herself and came to her senses she just started telling us how she has never felt the spirit so strongly and it was POWERFUL!. So again my challenge to everyone is to study the Atonement because it will change your life and it has changed mine.
We have so many service projects coming up and a couple that we were able to do this past week. This week, we are painting a crab (a small house that you would call a shed back home), painting a kitchen, doing yard work for the bishop since hes never home, and baking muffins for families who we are teaching FHE to. but i just wanted to stress the importance of service. Mosiah 2:17 "...when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God." True happiness comes from service, i have seen it in my life every single day. Try to find small and simple ways to serve someone. It doesn't need to be something big like painting a whole house but the more you do the small and simple things, "great things are brought to pass... And the lord god doth work by means to bring about his great and eternal purposes and by the very small means the lord doth confound the wise and bringeth about the salvation of many souls" Alma 37: 6&7.
