It's almost like I blink, and then here we are again.
I'm going to keep this week's email fairly simple. Let's see if this will actually be true.
This week I've been studying the Isaiah chapters in 2 Nephi. Isaiah contains some of my favorite scriptures. Arguably my favorite scripture is Isaiah 54: 7-8, 10: "For a small moment have I forsaken thee; but with great mercies will I gather thee. In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the Lord thy Redeemer. For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the Lord that hath mercy on thee." I love these words so much, they will forever enrich my troubled heart with warmth :)) But even though I love Isaiah, it's still very confusing for me to study. So I've been studying along with the Institute Student Manual. In 2 Nephi 19 (Isaiah 9), it contains the famous scripture about Christ saying "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder; and his name shall be called, Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace." And the words were carried and echoed through the centuries, especially at Christmas...BUT it's still an incredible verse to ponder in July :)
In the student manual, it includes a quote by Elder Jeffery R. Holland expanding on the promise that "the government shall be upon His shoulder." As I read this, I reflected on the state of the government not just in America, but the government of the world. Listen close now as we read this together :)
“The fact that the government would eventually be upon his shoulders affirms what all the world will one day acknowledge—that he is Lord of lords and King of kings and will one day rule over the earth and his Church in person, with all the majesty and sacred vestments belonging to a holy sovereign and a high priest. All can take comfort from the fact that because the government—and the burdens thereof—will be upon his shoulders, they will be lifted in great measure from our own. This is yet another reference in Isaiah to the Atonement, the bearing away of our sins (or at very least in this reference, our temporal burdens) on the shoulders of Christ” (Christ and the New Covenant, 80).
I'm very appreciative of this infinitely relieving promise :)
I think it's safe to say that the politics of today's world are "complicated." One of my favorite Korean verbs is 복잡하다 (bok-jap-ha-da) which means to be complicated, complex, intricate, tangled. There's a second definition where it means busy, crowed, congested. Seeing these descriptions, I think the world is very much in a state of 복잡하다!!
But the Savior Jesus Christ is the 복잡 Master! The Master of simplifying the complex, and untangling the un-untangleble! So let us continue to look to our Master during these crazy days, and let us find the quiet peace around us, the peace He gives :)
I'm thrilled to report that our teaching friend 김보연 is fantastic!! We had dinner twice with his family, I love his daughters so much!! All my homies know I love hanging out with kids, I just wish I could understand them! They're so innocent and precious. After a long struggle of trying to understand what they were asking me, I asked their dad to help translate, and I found out they were asking me "Have you ever seen a red dragonfly before?" UGH NO!! I WISH THAT SOUNDS AMAZING!! Hahaha isn't a child's mind amazing? She was like, yeah that's an important question to ask the weird white guy. BUT word has it that his daughters said I was cute 😲🤭 The two oldest daughters (ages 9 and 6) came to church with their dad, and they practiced singing "I Love to See the Temple." Next week, the primary will be singing in sacrament meeting. I literally cannot wait, I think it'll be the most precious moment I've ever experienced :)))
So yes, the family is progressing nicely, and they are all growing closer to their Heavenly Father and their Reedemer Jesus Christ <33 Excited to meet in their home tonight and meet the wife for the first time :)
Ok, love you all!! I miss you all. Feel free to reach out, give a quick update on your epic life. I'll do my best to respond quickly!! Thanks for reading friend <33
