This week was a great one here in the magnificent TKO. We did all sorts of missionary things: teaching, finding, calling, you name it.
It was super awesome though, one of our friends David accepted a baptismal date for September 22nd, he is super awesome and doing well. Our other investigator sister Lai is also doing well and preparing to be baptized on the 20th of this month; I just hope I don't get transferred before then.
We also did some language pass offs. Here in the Hong Kong mission you have to do these language pass offs where you have to teach lessons to the zone leader and they help you improve your language. This week was pretty fun; I taught the Gospel of Jesus Christ and found out that I only swore accidentally a few times. I guess if you say the number 7 with the wrong tone it's a pretty bad swear word.
Anyway it was neat because the Po Lam Elders have an investigator named John who helped us practice Chinese for a while and then after helped us go finding. I think more missionaries need investigators like John that volunteer to help us go finding. LOL.
Also, I forgot to talk about my new companion in my last email. His name is Elder Stansfield, he is super cool, he's from Salt Lake City, Utah, likes skiing and rock climbing, and he's been out about a year. Also Chinese people have an even harder time saying his name than mine so it's kinda funny.
This week we also did some exchanges so I got to go out with a new missionary that has been out about a week in HK so it was pretty neat to see how much I have improved since then. I still don't understand a lot but I can definitely see that the gift of tongues is real. Hope you guys have a good week!
Sincerely,
Elder Ashton
Fun fact 1: Elder Ashton reports that it is “stupid hot”, and that just walking to church results in being soaked in sweat. He isn’t complaining, just replying to mom’s question.
Fun fact 2: He mostly communicates in Cantonese to everyone except the English speaking Elders/Sisters and says it’s kind of fun to see the shocked faces of locals to see that he can speak Chinese-sort of (hopefully without too much swearing).
Fun fact 3: Members in his ward are amazing at taking photos and posting them!
