Mission Conference and Exchanges!!

May 29, 2017

Hello Everyone,

This week has just blown on by; it feels like it was p-day just yesterday!

Anyway, last P-day after emails we had mission conference with Elder Quentin L. Cook. It was quite a treat, he brought with him Elder Ulisses Soares from the Presidency of the Seventy, Bishop Wadell from the Presiding Bishopric, and Elder Evans an Area Seventy. Fun fact, Bishop Wadell is like 6 foot 7.

The conference was really great though we got to shake the hands of some of the leadership of the church and spend some time listening and being in the presence of one of the Saviors special witnesses. They spent some time talking about the magnitude of the calling of being a missionary and how we are emissaries of the Lord. He also talked about being humble before we can access the power of the Lord. I didn't realize that I was so proud, but I guess I have some humbling to do because in our mission meetings we seem to talk about humility a lot.

Anyway, the coolest part was when he bore his testimony and bestowed upon us an apostolic blessing. He told us that our missions will be a blessing to everyone that we love whether it be our immediate family, our friends, our investigators, our future spouses, or our future posterity. He also testified that he "Recognizes the Voice of the Savior, And Knows his Face." As Elder Cook solemnly testified of the reality of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the spirit was so strong. At that moment the spirit confirmed to me, once more, that Elder Cook is one of the Lords Apostles and that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints is the Lords true Church, and that his Gospel has been restored through the Prophet Joseph smith. It was one of the coolest experiences of my life.

This week I also went on exchanges with my MTC companion, Elder Beeson, over in Tai Wo, it was pretty neat to struggle as two fresh missionaries out on our own. It was also pretty interesting seeing a different side of Hong Kong; Tai Wo is quite a bit different than my area, it is quite a bit less urban with jungle all around and buildings that only go up 8 to 10 stories tall. It was super neat though.

Hope Y'all have a great week!

Sincerely,
Elder Ashton

Fun fact 1: Elder Ashton’s Mom now has two Facebook friends from Hong Kong who tag her when they post pictures of the missionaries. Bless them!

Fun fact 2: Elder Ashton reported that last week the weather was pretty good. 80’s and rainy.

Fun fact 3: Elder Ashton shares an amusement with his mom of weird or interesting foods, thus sometimes you will see him share pictures of foods he is finding. A photo attached is the second new type of Oreo he’s found in HK.
