This week has been fantastic! Why is it so fantastic you ask? Because I had the opportunity to watch General Conference and be a missionary! Seriously though conference was amazing. If, for some reason, you haven't seen it- watch, read, or listen to it NOW!
It is so amazing to be able to hear from so many prophets and apostles 2 times a year. Each conference has some part of a talk meant just for you. It was super cool how as I watched I noticed things that were applicable to me, but also I noticed many things that pertained specifically to each and every one of my investigators. Even better was the fact that we had two of our investigators actually attend conference. Jack went for the first 2 sessions, and Kitty went for all four sessions!
During conference I noticed a few things that really stuck out to me. One of them was kindness and love; multiple talks touched on it and emphasized the importance of loving others. We cannot compel people to follow the gospel. They have their agency and we should love them no matter what choices they make. They talked about loving everybody even those who are incredibly hard to love. We can only help people follow Jesus Christ's example if we love them.
Also, there was a huge emphasis on the importance of daily scripture study, prayer, and weekly church attendance. The only way we can stay continually strong in the gospel is if we continuously strive to learn about the Gospel and feel the spirit all the time.
I just finished reading “Jesus The Christ” by James E. Talmage. If you haven't read it yet I would recommend it. That book helped me understand the importance and nature of Jesus Christ's life and sacrifice so much more. 10 out of 10-would read again.
Hope Y'all have a great week!
Sincerely,
Elder Ashton
Fun fact 1: Elder Ashton sent pictures-he said it was hard to find the computers with the usb plugs-and then proceeded to send a bunch of pictures so he must have found one.
Fun fact 2: When he sent the pictures he didn’t have time to explain them, except to point out the guy on the bed of nails is his companion-so any captions are my (mom's) guesses. And of course we get pictures of food. (The kid is related to his mom after all!)
Pictures:
1. Elder Ashton at the MTC pointing to his mission in Hong Kong (this was taken a day before he left).
2. View from Elder Ashton’s apartment (40th floor).
3. A look down from the view of his apartment.
4. His desk where he studies.
5. Elder Ashton’s companion, Elder Love. He is on a bed of nails. Looks like an interactive exhibit somewhere.
6. A Star Wars display in his area.
7. Another Star Wars display (yes, he’s a fan!)
8. Sushi I think!
9. Looks like he found some exotic Oreos.
