Hello,
This week was another fantastic week at the MTC. My companion and I taught a ton of lessons this week to our investigators and a few to some members as well and I am getting so much better at Cantonese. One of the members we taught was evaluating with my teachers and she referred to us as the ones who spoke really good Cantonese. The gift of tongues is real!
The subject of this email Tai Moyihmunging means “read the Book of Mormon” in Cantonese –if you say tai with a mid-rising tone. But if you use a mid-tone it means “shave the Book of Mormon”. I just thought that would be my fun Cantonese fact of the week. So, moral of the story is read the book don't shave it.
This week in our priesthood lesson one of the counselors in the branch presidency related the gift of the Holy Ghost to driving through Hawaii. He told us a story about how he avoided a backed up freeway in Honolulu by driving through the city to get to his hotel. While driving through unfamiliar streets he ended up making many 90 degree turns up and down one way streets trying to navigate. Once he found the correct road however, he only needed to make minor corrections to stay on the road. Much like people who don't have the spirit to guide them they can make huge turns in their life sometimes good sometimes bad. When we have the spirit though, we can know the correct way to go and we only have to make small corrections—repenting and using the atonement, and we will be guided.
