Service!!!

Hey Everybody,

This week has been a fantastic one here in Hong Kong. This will be my last email as a missionary so there are a lot of mixed feelings. Things are good though!

This week we had the opportunity to do a lot of service. We went down to Sunny Bay and helped move about 2.5 shipping containers of clothes and prepare them to be sent out to needy people all over the world. It was mostly just moving a bunch of 50+ pound bags of clothes but it was great! Apparently, we helped move about 360,000 articles of clothing!!!

This week we also got to go and pack bags of rice to give to needy people here in Hong Kong. It is honestly such a blessing to serve in any way, whether it be through sharing the Gospel, moving clothes, packing rice or any other form of service.

One thing I have learned a lot about on the mission is charity and really how to love people that I may not even know. For a long time I struggled to really work on some of the Christlike attributes because it is hard to measure the change in yourself when some of the things like charity come slowly over a lifetime. As I look back at some of the experiences I've had, I have come to see how the Lord has been refining me and helping me become a better person.

We were playing basketball with some people the other day, and as I looked out at some of the people who I had just met 5 minutes before I realized that I have really come to love the people of Hong Kong. They are just so great! They will always have a special place in my heart!

The mission has been such a blessing and I can't wait to share even more experiences as I return home and can speak face to face with all of you. I hope you have a wonderful week!

Sincerely,
Elder Ashton

Fun fact 1: We've been sent the itinerary, and he gets a packet on travel some time later today. As far as I can tell he'll be traveling for about 22 hours, but lands the same day! (He flies to Seoul, Seattle, then Denver!)

Fun fact 2: He thinks he may be the only returning missionary heading to the US from Hong Kong when he leaves. The other two he knows about are both returning to the Philippines.

Fun fact 3: He is pretty sure he's going to be freezing when he lands because he says it hasn't been cold at all. But you never know... it is Colorado after all.

Fun fact 4: His homecoming will be on February 17th at 9 am at our church building (910 Ridge Road, Littleton, CO 80120). We also will have a celebration at our house (422 W Jamison Place, Littleton, CO 80120) between noon and about 3 pm that day. All are welcome to either or both!

Thank you so much for all the prayers, letters, support, and love so many of you have shared over the past 2 years!
