Another week in Hong Kong

Oct 3, 2017

Hello Everybody,

Sorry this Email is a little late. This week we get to go to the temple so P-day is moved around and we were supposed to email yesterday but we were super busy so that didn't happen.

Anyway, this last week has been good, Here in Hong Kong we haven't seen conference yet because it of the time difference and they need to translate the talks into Cantonese. I heard that it was good though so I'll let you know what my thoughts about that are next week.

Like I said before though this week was a good one. Why you may ask... really it is because we are doing the work of the Lord so whatever we are doing is good. It is really cool to see how the Lord supports us even when things are really hard.

I actually had a cool experience this week, we decided to go finding this last and we spent a little over 4 hours wondering the streets of TKO facing very little success, We were sweating like dogs and to be honest being turned down for that long in the heat is not the most fun thing to do. Anyway, I maintained a good attitude about it and kept trying. Once our allotted finding time up and we were heading to the church for English class I said hi to a woman on the street and she was pretty willing to listen to what we were saying. It turns out that she lives in a different area, but it was pretty neat nonetheless.

A lot of times it is after the trial of our faith that we see things happen, we can be working for hours, days, weeks, or even years trying to do the work of the Lord, and sometimes we don't see much success, but as we keep trying to do the work of the Lord no matter how difficult, the success will come. For some it takes longer than others. For example, our convert had met with missionaries for over 10 years and been in contact with the church for even longer, but as we keep reaching out we will make a difference.

Anyway, I hope that made some sense. Hope Y'all have a good week.

Sincerely,

Elder Ashton

Fun fact 1: Elder Ashton was grateful that as missionaries they don’t really hear too much of the news and tragedies, but he was saddened to hear about the shooting in Las Vegas. But also grateful we have the gospel of Christ to help us through hard things.

Fun fact 2: Elder Ashton said he’s having trouble spelling in English lately. Not sure if that’s a good sign or not-that he’s immersed enough to start losing his native tongue!

Fun fat 3: He and his companion, Elder Stansfield, get along great. While he expects there will be changes in the future with transfers coming up pretty soon, he’s also going to bid farewell to two of his friends, Elder Love and Elder Petersen, both who will be heading home.
