Finding joy

Hey family and friends
Hopefully everyone doesn't mind my long emails haha. Me and my companion are starting to get in the grove of things in our area. We're finding plenty of people to teach now, its just getting them to commit to meeting with us is tricky. Not easier when most of them are college students and school are officially for them next Monday.
The biggest thing that I've learn this week and while I've been here is finding joy in everything. Many of the people we teach and talk to have little to nothing and yet because of the strong belief in God they have their happy in their circumstances. They've taught me that I must appreciate all that we have considering many of us are rich in their eyes.
Many of us will be distraught and upset because something didn't go the way we wanted it to. Well while I've been here I've seen that sometime this happens because God has something greater for us if we will be open and look for it.
May want to skip to the end if you don't want a long spiritual thought lol.

All of us go through hard times in life and we feel this slows us down and keeps us from continuing in life. But we must view this from God's eyes. He may have something great in store for us but we wont be able to handle it unless we have to endure trials first. My favorite scriptures for this are doctrine and covenants 122:7 & 123: 17. They say "if the very jaws of hell shall gape open the mouth wide after thee, know thou, my son, that all these things shall give thee experience, and shall be for thy good" and us cheerfully do all things that lie in our power; and then may we stand still, with the utmost assurance, to see the salvation of God, and for his arm to be revealed." I love this and I have truly seen god's arm extend in our work as we continue cheerfully.
Alright so here's the story. Me and my companion decided to spend the afternoon walking the 45 minutes to our appointment then talking to everyone on the way back up until dinner. Well after the walk there it took longer than we thought and we found out the house didn't even exist - like there wasn't a house with that number on the street lol. But we just both said that we'd find someone that needed us and we didn't walk this way for nothing. On our way back I'm not kidding we found 3 people who were genuinely interested and had set up visits for all of them. I told him that we were always suppose to go there but not to see the person we planned, it was for the people God place in our path because we remained hopeful. I've had many other instances like this that have taught me to never lose hope and to always be cheerful.
I know that joy is not something that can be given to you, but rather something you make the choice to experience. We can all feel it, it's up to us whether want want to choose to or not.
I saw what actually rain storms are like here. Utah doesn't really get rain. It may think about coming down hard for a few minutes then goes away shortly after. On Friday we were walking door to door when all of a sudden it started pouring on us. Luckily we had umbrellas in our car but we were still soaked. It rained most of the day which I'm not used to haha.
Crazy enough I'm starting to find it fun to go and talk to everyone I meet. Doesn't this mean it's easy? Of course not, this is not something I'm good at. But if we ever want to find success in anything you'll have to enjoy it! That's why I feel I'm having so much success here, it is not based on numbers but rather your own personal growth. Before i came out here I never knew how many different types of people there could be haha. We run into so many interesting people lol, but I enjoy talking to all of them as long as they are friendly for the most part.
Know that I love each one of you. And am here for all of you, that you are never far from my heart. Hope you all have the best week!
