Hi Mom!! I loved your email this week and I´m super happy to hear that you had a good mother´s day! One of my favorite scripture stories is about the Sons of Helaman. 2,000 young men went to war to defend their families and their freedom. Alma 56:47-48 hints at how important the mother´s role played in their faith, and courage.
47 Now they never had fought, yet they did not fear death; and they did think more upon the liberty of their fathers than they did upon their lives; yea, they had been taught by their mothers, that if they did not doubt, God would deliver them.
48 And they rehearsed unto me the words of their mothers, saying: We do not doubt our mothers knew it.
Verses 55 and 56 are where we see the miracle
55 And now it came to pass that when they had surrendered themselves up unto us, behold, I numbered those young men who had fought with me, fearing lest there were many of them slain.
56 But behold, to my great joy, there had not one soul of them fallen to the earth; yea, and they had fought as if with the strength of God; yea, never were men known to have fought with such miraculous strength; and with such mighty power did they fall upon the Lamanites, that they did frighten them; and for this cause did the Lamanites deliver themselves up as prisoners of war.
I love scripture because It shows the importance of moms in the Lord´s work. Much like the 2,000 young nephite men that went to war with the Lamanite armies, today in the mission field, there are a little over 70,000 young men and women serving in the Lord´s work. I know that not everyone has a great mother figure in their lives, but I am so grateful for mine.
I know that the things that you taught me as a kid, youth, and young adult shaped me into the missionary I am today. I know that sometimes, I was not the easiest child. I know that a lot of the time I was stubborn and a knuckle head. But this (late) mother´s day, I want to take a minute and thank you for all the hard work that you put into raising me and your other 4 punksters. Thank you so much for bringing us up in the gospel of Christ and the peace that you brought into the family. Thank you for your constant caring example, and the love you always showed for us. I Love you Mom!!!
