Spiritual thought! Well since this past week was may the 4th here is a star wars spiritual thought that I liked. One I like is when Luke is trying to use the force to get his X-wing unstuck, and Yoda teaches us some sweet lessons.
Luke: All right, I'll give it a try.Yoda: No. Try not. Do... or do not. There is no try
Then after a failed attempt Luke lost all hope and gives up. Then Yoda moves the X-wing pretty effortlessly with the force.
Luke: I don't, I don't believe it! Yoda: That is why you fail.
Yoda teaches me a lot about faith here. Two important aspects of faith to me is that first I commit to the Lord that I believe in him and his power, and secondly I commit to do all I can to show him my belief. See Ether 12:6
'Faith is things which are hoped for and not seen; wherefore, dispute not because ye see not, for ye receive no witness until after the trial of your faith.'
I know as we believe in Christ and then act in faith on that belief, miracles will happen! I know any X-wing or trial that we feel is immovable can and will be moved in the Lord's time as we grow our faith in him! And remember, even though Luke initially had no faith, he became one of the greatest Jedi ever! So today I invite you to either continue, or start now growing your faith in our Savior Jesus Christ. Do... or do not. There is no try! Well I got to the Dallas Texas East mission on Monday and on Tuesday I got transferred to my new area in Gilmer Texas with my companion Elder Wayment! The Gilmer 2nd area is a former Mormon settlement in the south so there are lots of members and they love the missionaries! There are 4 wards in Gilmer, and there's lots of work!
Elder Wayment and I have hit the ground running, we found 2 new people this week and invited 3 people to be baptized. They are all praying about it as we speak so that is super exciting! We are teaching a bunch of solid people, we have a lady we taught this week named Ronnie. She is an older woman from Belize. She has been reading the book of Mormon and said she wanted more peace in her life so we taught her the gospel of Jesus Christ. We told her that if she would follow that she would have more peace in her life we then invited her to be baptized and we are going to set a date with her this week. We are also teaching this guy named Dwayne he has been taught on and off for about 2 years, this man has had a hard life. He has been in prison and has done a lot of bad things and when the Elder originally found him he was living in a tent with his wife, since then he has found Jesus and has changed his life around he now lives with his family in a nice little house and has given up a lot of things. We taught him the plan of salvation and asked him what his desire is. He said he wants to live with his family forever so we told him that in order to do that he must follow Jesus Christ and be baptized. He is now praying about it and hopefully next time we will be able to set a date with him. We found this lady named Latonya she is pretty awesome, she was a self referral and was struggling with her relationship with God and having peace in her life. She is the daughter of a preacher and went to bible school so she knows a lot about the bible, her dad passed away a couple of years ago and she has been struggling ever since. We shared some scriptures with her and told her about the book of Mormon and how it can help her. She accepted it and said she would read it. We have a return appointment this week and we are super excited! Lastly we are teaching and older man named Ronnie, Ronnie is 66 and on oxygen when we got there he was struggling with drinking and smoking, we shared about the book of Mormon and the power of the atonement, he decided to give it all to us that day so we took all his cigarettes and beer and he has been clean for this whole week, Ronnie showed us what true faith in Christ looks like and we are excited to keep teaching him!
Life here in the Texas Dallas East mission is amazing, I love Gilmer and the people here so much already! I am grateful to be back out doing the Lord's work! I love all of you and hope you are doing great!
