One Last Time

Okay but seriously, there are so many things that I've learned on my mission. I could type out an entire flipping novel on a few hundred little things, a few hundred big things, and a few hundred of the most important things, but 1. I don't have enough time for that, nor would I want to have enough time for that, and 2. You probably wouldn't even wanna read it all. So, here's the power statements:
1. God is incredibly real, and loves us a ridiculous amount.
2. Jesus Christ is His Son, who allows us to not only return to God to receive an eternity of happiness, but allows us to feel little foretastes of that same joy here on earth.
3. This is His church, restored by a prophet, just like in them old days, which allows us to do what we need to do & make the promises we need to make to get back to Him.
4. This life is meant to be joyful, even during the craptacular times. Through our struggles, we can feel joy, enduring joy, if we turn to God.
5. The Book of Mormon is evidence of all of this. You want peace? Read it. You want to know God? Read it. You want to live with the people you love forever? READ IT. And then? Pray about it. Simple formula, and you can know it's true.
I am so grateful for the short time I was able to spend here in the SIM, as it has not only made me a better man, but a better disciple of Jesus Christ. I am grateful as well for each of you, for your examples to me and your help that you've given, even if just by example, to make me a better person. I am so grateful to the amazing people of Scotland, Northern Ireland, and the Republic of Ireland, which have shown me such incredible love and taught me so many valuable lessons. I am grateful to the ward back home that supported me and got me here! I am grateful for my friends, both on the mission and off, who have made life so much sweeter. I am so incredibly grateful for my parents, for their love, kindness, and constant support. And I am eternally grateful to my Father in Heaven which put me here, at this place and time, to be able to come in contact with all these wonderful, beautiful souls.
To whomever is reading this, God bless you.
For one last spiritual thought, I turn to the testimony of Ammon, found in Alma 26:
27 Now when our hearts were depressed, and we were about to turn back, behold, the Lord comforted us, and said: Go amongst thy brethren, the Lamanites, and bear with patience thine afflictions, and I will give unto you success.
28 And now behold, we have come, and been forth amongst them; and we have been patient in our sufferings, and we have suffered every privation; yea, we have traveled from house to house, relying upon the mercies of the world—not upon the mercies of the world alone but upon the mercies of God.
29 And we have entered into their houses and taught them, and we have taught them in their streets; yea, and we have taught them upon their hills; and we have also entered into their temples and their synagogues and taught them; and we have been cast out, and mocked, and spit upon, and smote upon our cheeks; and we have been stoned, and taken and bound with strong cords, and cast into prison; and through the power and wisdom of God we have been delivered again.
35 Now have we not reason to rejoice? Yea, I say unto you, there never were men that had so great reason to rejoice as we, since the world began; yea, and my joy is carried away, even unto boasting in my God; for he has all power, all wisdom, and all understanding; he comprehendeth all things, and he is a merciful Being, even unto salvation, to those who will repent and believe on his name.
36 Now if this is boasting, even so will I boast; for this is my life and my light, my joy and my salvation, and my redemption from everlasting wo. Yea, blessed is the name of my God, who has been mindful of this people, who are a branch of the tree of Israel, and has been lost from its body in a strange land; yea, I say, blessed be the name of my God, who has been mindful of us, wanderers in a strange land.
37 Now my brethren, we see that God is mindful of every people, whatsoever land they may be in; yea, he numbereth his people, and his bowels of mercy are over all the earth. Now this is my joy, and my great thanksgiving; yea, and I will give thanks unto my God forever. Amen.
It's been the hardest two years of my life, but also the sweetest. As I reflect, my heart is full. Every single heartbreak that left me feeling devastated actually opened up room in my heart for the Savior to put more love in. Through all of the ups and downs, the goods and bads, I have seen God in it all and found, as stated in Doctrine and Covenants 122:7, that this has been for my experience. Blessed is the name of my God, for He has been mindful of me, and I will thank Him every day of my life for these experiences.
