Texas Houston East Mission Christmas Information

November 4, 2019

Dear Families of Missionaries of Texas Houston East Mission:

Christmas in the mission field should be a sacred time of reflection for your missionary and can be one of the most special times of a mission. My two Christmas seasons as a missionary still burn bright in my memory as it provided a great opportunity to think of others more than myself. As you ponder the types of gifts to send to your missionary son or daughter, we lovingly and respectfully request that you keep gift giving simple and useful. We would ask you to not send items such as toys, games, cameras, books, magazines, additional reading material or other items that are well intended but would end up being a distraction to your missionary. Some practical suggestions would include: new white shirts (always in need), a new sweater, skirt or blouse, socks, an appropriate tie, a pair of dress pants for proselyting activities, EFY or conference CD’s, etc. Another idea that seems to always resonate with missionaries would be fast food gift cards. Again, I would urge you to keep all gifts simple and useful. Additionally, please inform extended family members to be aware of these guidelines as well as the mailing deadline.

Our mission policy for music is that is should be sacred and invite the spirit. The missionary library includes the scriptures, Preach My Gospel, Jesus the Christ, Our Heritage, Our Search for Happiness and True to the Faith. The missionaries are encouraged to have their studies focused on the scriptures and Preach My Gospel. We have been taught that we need “Little Else” as this is a time of consecration and devotion. Great blessings come as we devote our total attention to these focused studies. We explain to the missionaries that Jesus the Christ is to be used as a reference guide.

Please send all packages to:

Texas Houston East Mission

Your Missionary’s Name

2815 W. Lake Houston Parkway #109

Kingwood, Texas 77339

Make sure that your packages arrive at the mission office by December 5. This way we can be sure that they will all be distributed at the Christmas Conference on December 19. Write a large “CHRISTMAS” across the letter or package. Then we can tell the difference between the Christmas and regular mail.

You have the most wonderful sons and daughters and Sister Hewlett and I are so thrilled to be serving with them in T.H.E. Mission. We love them, and we are so thankful to you for all your efforts to prepare them for their service to the Lord as full time missionaries. We are grateful for the special place they have in this great and wonderful Mission Family. We love each of you as well. We appreciate your prayers of support for your missionary, their fellow missionaries and for Sister Hewlett and me.

This is a wonderful and precious time of year as we remember the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. May you enjoy this blessed season of the year.

Our best to you and your family,

President and Sister Hewlett
