Food, Food and More Food! #Gluttony
As the subject line implies/outright states, we ate a lot of food this week. Don't worry, I have maintained a good weight and all my clothes fit, it is just the effects of a bike area. You are CONSTANTLY hungry. We had a couple nights this week where we had two dinners a night. It was for teaching purposes though. It is a lot easier to set up a dinner than a teaching appointment with a few of the people we teach so we just book two dinners some nights. Hey, it works haha! We get the job done. That on top of my birthday and Easter, we just got fed a lot.
I did have a great birthday this week, I was surprised by a member in the Ward who made my favorite dinner and dessert. I say surprised because I wasn't sure what exactly was going to happen but I knew that something was going to happen. It was great though! Thank you for sending the birthday package, I enjoyed it! I will send my unwrapping video.
Mostly this week was just in anticipation for Easter. I can't recall an Easter where I was as excited for it to one as I was for this one. We did have one of those slower type weeks; this area has been tracted over so we never really gat to talk to anyone tracting. Not a that we don't tract, but, we just try different ways of finding. It has becoming quite the puzzler! (Any suggestions would help!) It can be discouraging but we press forward with a hope that we will find someone. Honestly, that was really our week. Trying to find people and eating food. Texans don't really have anything to entertain themselves like mountains or really good trails so they just eat food. It works, I've enjoyed it thus far. Honestly I think I have grown to love Mexican food more than I have Texas BBQ. It is interesting. Anywho, back to the point.
Celebrating Easter on the mission is really awesome! Everyone said that Christmas is the best but I honestly liked Easter better. I am not sure if it is because of what has happened recently but I have gained a much stronger view and understanding of the Atonement and it's meaning.
In Flower Mound, we had an Easter Sunday Sunrise service at 7am on Sunday and the stake was the one that was presiding at the service. It was an amazing way to testify to the community that we are in fact Christian. We hope that people in Flower Mound will be more open to us now.
In sacrament meeting yesterday we had great talks. One on the atonement and another on the resurrection. For some reason, I liked the one about the resurrection more. The speaker went into more depth and I saw the resurrection in a different light. I guess to start this off, I think it is interesting how for the 2-3 weeks leading up to Easter we have been learning a lot about the atonement. We have been teaching about it, I have been studying it both on purpose and accidentally, and I have had experiences with it. The growth of my understanding for the need of it as well as what it means has been incredible. So back to the talk. I saw in the talk something I have always known and thought about when it came to the resurrection and the atonement, but my thought was this: If the atonement and resurrection had not happened, Elder Griffin, my investigators, the Ward members, my family, my friends, everyone that I love and that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ loves - they would all be lost. We would never be able to return to our Heavenly Father. It never hit me with such plainness or power than it did sitting in that chair yesterday. I knew at that moment that I needed to work on strengthening my relationship with Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father. I need to put more of a conscious effort on my end to come unto them. That thought was something that was confirmed to me all day yesterday. My studies, my prayers, conversations with Elder Griffin, and articles I read in the Ensign.
All in all I have one from this week knowing for more of a surety that Jesus is our Savior and our Redeemer. This is the Lord's church here on the earth. Repentance and forgiveness is very real and the love of our Heavenly Father is endless. He is patient with us, for He knows our potential and our hearts. He is forgiving. He will help us overcome all of our trials and our temptations. We will fail, we will stumble, we will fall down, scrape our knees, look up to Heavenly Father and in humility ask as Joseph Smith did in Liberty jail,
"O God, where art thou? And where is the pavilion that covereth thy hiding place? How long shall thy hand be stayed, and thine eye, yea thy pure eye, behold from the eternal heavens the wrongs of thy people and of thy servants, and thine ear be penetrated with their cries?"
But we must never lose sight of the light that comes because of Jesus Christ. All things work together for our good. Everything has some benefit in the eternal perspective. So, in the words of Elder Jeffery R. Holland, an apostle of the Lord Jesus Christ, "Be strong. Live the gospel faithfully even if others around you don’t live it at all. Defend your beliefs with courtesy and with compassion, but defend them." Great blessings will come. Inner peace, despite the whirlwinds around you, will be possible.
