We cannot learn to ride a bike by sitting and staring at it :)

Hey guys! Things are going good..couldn't be better! Had a couple cool experiences this week. We are also really looking forward to Jerry Perry's baptism on Saturday! Brother Riley ( the pastor from last week) gave his sermon this last week and people actually wanted to know more about Joseph Smith. Holy cow! They can’t really fire brother Riley until his contract is up, so he can go and preach whatever he wants for the next little bit. They cut his pay though, and this week he said they probably won’t pay him any longer, but he can still go and preach to the congregation, haha. On Saturday we met with him and gave him the book Preach My Gospel! Perfect for his sermons! Went over some questions he had, so he could expound doctrine to those he was going to teach… so awesome!!!

We ran into several interesting people this week, I wont go into details just because it would take a lot of time to explain… but it has made me so grateful for what I have. The gospel of Jesus Christ requires me to change, to become a better person, and to shake off the natural man. Faith has always been an action word. Salvation has always required action on our part… just as we cannot learn how to ride a bike by sitting and starring at it, we can no more develop a relationship to God unless we pray to him, learn of him and try to be like Him.
"For how knoweth a man the master whom he has not served, and who is a stranger unto him, and is far from the thoughts and intents of his heart?" (Mosiah 5:13)
It is true, we cannot. I am grateful for a savior who sacrificed himself for me, and if we live for the covenants we've made with Him we can return to our Fathers presence. By being righteous in this life and working to become better each day, we do not earn our salvation but we learn how to live heavenly. We are preparing to live in the place where our Father is and where no unclean thing can enter.
I know with all of me that is true!
In the name of our savior Jesus Christ Amen.
Love you all,
Elder Shouse
