Hello, hello, hello! This week was a quick one!! Had some awesome things happen this week! Victor got baptized one of the most spiritual baptisms I was able to be apart of, it was great!! I was able to give a talk on the Holy Ghost. My grandma gave a talk on the holy ghost at my baptism and I used her big box of presents idea, each present represented a different attribute of the Spirit. Went really well! Thanks Grandma! The bishopric gave Victor a big picture of Jesus that he could hang in his house and when they gave it to him he started crying, he has really come a long way! I was also able to speak in church on Sunday, they gave me time to prepare a day before so I got some time, haha, it was all good though! Picked up a few new investigators that we're going to keep working with this next week, we should have a few new faces at church this next week which I'm really looking forward to. This ward is so great though, we teach a lot here and there is a member with us at almost every lesson. We also picked up an investigator this week that I had a cool experience with, his name is Sam Belka. Sam's cousin is a friend I had in high school (Joe Aspergren) Joe was on my football team. Small world though! Pretty cool!
For my spiritual thought this week, I wanted to share a little bit about what my talk was on, on Sunday. The restoration of the priesthood. Like all of Christianity we believe in Christ divinity, and the authority he held. This power and authority, also known as the priesthood has been given to chosen men throughout history to direct God's children on the Earth. But the main role of the priesthood, is to allow all men and women to receive the necessary ordinances required for eternal life. Baptism and the reception of the Holy Ghost are two of these ordinances. Many times in the scriptures it refers to these ordinances as the baptism of water and the baptism of fire. Both are required to live in God's kingdom, both must be performed by someone holding priesthood authority. Prophets of old all held this authority, leading all the way up to John the baptist who prepared the way for the Savior. The Savior during his ministry upon the earth gave this priesthood to his apostles, who had the permission they needed from God to preach the gospel, baptized individuals, and bestow the gift of the Holy Ghost upon all those who would receive it. But we see eventually the Savior was crucified and the apostles were scattered and killed, and their authority that was given to them died with them. Many churches began to form because of this lack of authority, those who followed the Savior wanted to continue his church, but the church as a whole was in confusion. Men began to mix in their own philosophies, adding things that they believed should be in God's church. Which has lead to why there were so many different denominations today and not one unity of faith, as Christ taught. Therefore a restoration of Christ Church was needed and more importantly a bringing back of the authority of God to the Earth. Just as men have been called by God in past times he again called a man to be His prophet on the earth. As we know in the Bible we learn that God is the same, yesterday, today, and forever. So God will always call a prophet and will always organize his church in the same way. Joseph Smith was this man that was chosen by God. He had an experience that changed the World! At 14 years of age he saw God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ. They told him that he had a work to do. This work would include restoring the priesthood of our Lord. John the baptist later visited Joseph, and then Peter, James and John who were of the original apostles. After which he held that very same priesthood, and the permission from God to direct his children on the Earth again once more. We have now entered the fullness of times and we have evidence of what I speak of is true, the Book of Mormon. It was translated by the gift and power of God. As we read it we come closer to our Savior and in turn we understand that no man could have brought fourth such a book unless he was inspired of God. I Implore each of you to gain a testimony of this wonderful book and our eyes will we opened to know that God has once again called a prophet and His authority, even our Savior Jesus Christ, has restored the priesthood. It is here to bless our lives and to help us reach higher towards our Father in Heaven. I am so grateful for the blessing the priesthood has been in my life, the windows of heaven are opened, and God has revealed to his children the fullness of His gospel! I know that is true and I’m grateful for this knowledge. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
