Hey everyone! I hope no one is still tired from partying all night on New Years!!! We had a good one, got to go to a few ward parties and hangout for a little while, until our curfew which was 6 o'clock that night. Kind of a bummer, but don't want to be on the road with any drunk drivers! So as always transfers came, and unfortunately I'm leaving, really sad that I am cause I have really grown to love the people of this area. Along with the ward, and my trusty side kick Elder Fisher, but I have full confidence that he's going to continue to do great things not only in this area but throughout the rest of his mission! But when one door shuts another opens. I have been assigned a greenie, Elder Tucker who I am hearing nothing but good things about, and we will be opening a new area in Damascus Maryland! Super excited and cannot wait to see the new adventures and experiences that lie ahead, and also very grateful that I will be able to share them with you!
I do want to tell you an experience I had this week. An awesome, wonderful, knock your socks off experience! Elder Fisher and I have been trying to get in with this guy named Glen for about 3 months now. We knocked into him and he immediately lit up when he opened the door. We set a return appointment but could never catch him at a good time. Just goes to show that we should never give up on people ;) Well, we got in with him this last week and turns out he's a former investigator who was on date for baptism about a year and a half ago. Keep in mind we don't have any record in our area book that missionaries had visited this guy. He got into a major car accident and the missionaries never came back!? What???? So we got in, found all this out, taught him the restoration, actually... he basically explained it all to us. We didn't have to teach haha! Then we asked when he could be baptized?...I often think to myself about how the Lord has throughout my life, not only on my mission, but throughout my life, put me in the right place at the right time. What a miracle! Now I cannot describe to you in words how prepared this man is to receive the gospel and press on in his life to whatever Heavenly Father has for him next, but the best way to describe it is, a thanksgiving turkey, haha! Before it goes into the oven, (you laugh haha but) that turkey needs to be ready, and must be prepared by someone for a period of time to be cooked. You can't just throw a frozen turkey into an oven...maybe you can, but I don't think it would taste as good. The Lord has readied this man for something greater, and this has brought me true happiness and testifies to me why I am out here serving a mission. People want this in their lives...they are searching for it. We are so grateful to be able to serve in behalf of the Lord and bring people unto Him. I'm sure if we didn't knock on his door months ago, missionaries would have eventually come, and he would have been just as ready then. But Brothers and Sisters it is better to have the gospel now, and receive the blessings from it NOW rather than LATER than miss out on all those blessing that could have been received. I testify that this is the time for men to prepare to meet God, and if this is true, if all of this is true then nothing else matters. We must share what we have, there maybe those of you who are hesitant to share this with others, these restored truths, or maybe you are the one hesitant to partake of them. But remember that the Lord takes care of those who follow him.
41 And moreover, I would desire that ye should consider on the blessed and happy state of those that keep the commandments of God. For behold, they are
blessed in all things, both temporal and spiritual; and if they hold out faithful to the end they are received into heaven, that thereby they may dwell with God in a state of never ending happiness. O remember, remember that these things are true; for the Lord God hath spoken it.
If we resolve to do something, and then do nothing, nothing will happen. With this new year let us resolve to share with others the light we have. I know that our Father in Heaven is there, he loves us more than we can comprehend, and daily has a hand in our lives. I know these things to be true in the name of Jesus Christ Amen.
