Well folks I'm gonna say that this last week has probably been the best thus far of my mission. Its so wonderful how often our Father in Heaven reminds us how much he loves us. Most of the time we don't pay to much attention to the little blessings received here and there, but as I have tried to pay attention to those small blessings I have been able to see God’s infinite love in all my daily endeavors. Well to start off we had Elder Oaks comes speak to us on Saturday. The spirit that was present was overwhelming, it was sooo great. I’ll share more of that at the end of my letter, but I would like to talk about some miracles that happened this week!
On Tuesday we had an appointment with an older lady that lived in our neighborhood. We knew that she had some grandchildren living with her but we didn't know how many, anyways we go over for our appointment and she wasn't there but her oldest grandson was (Freddy). He answered the door we asked for Vicky (the grandma), he said she wasn't home, but asked us what we wanted to talk to her about. We explained who we were and what we were doing. He actually asked us if we would share the message with him. So we sat out on the porch and we started to share the Restoration with him. Just as we started, the other three siblings came home from school and he asked all of them to come sit down and listen. So they did and I have never see kids that were listening so intently, it was awesome! We shared our message, gave them each a Book of Mormon and asked if they would read a specific chapter that we gave them and asked them to pray about it, they each agreed....If we are worthy instruments Heavenly Father will put us in the right place at the right time!
Our other miracle occurred last night, Since church is at 1:00PM and we get out at 4:00PM, so our proselyting time is cut down a lot on Sundays cause usually right after Church we have dinner at a members home. Anyways we had a dinner last night and were planning on going tracting after. But as we ended dinner we got a text from Sister Granados (who is an awesome member who always refers her friends to us which is super awesome). We had taught a family earlier in the week and they didn't seem very interested and kind of told us that we were wasting our time on them. Anyways we get a text from sister Granados saying that one of the boys of this family had reached out to her and said he wanted to learn more! We got invited to go over again last night, to teach him (Andre). Turns out he had been reading and praying about the Book of Mormon every night, since the last time we taught them, he asked to be baptized and we set up a date for October 22. The seed had been planted and he nourished it (Alma 32:28).
I loved this week and all the blessings that came with it, I would just like to share a few things that I learned from Elder Oaks this last week and as you ponder these thoughts I hope you can be as uplifted and edified as I was!
Elder Oaks spoke about always reaching for higher ground. He told us to consistently make a commitment in your morning prayers to be better today than you were yesterday. He spoke a lot about Christlike Attributes. They are laid out specifically for missionaries in Preach My Gospel Chapter 6. He said "We must attain those Christlike attributes in chapter 6 by our work, constantly seeking to attain them." He also gave a wonderful analogy about returned missionaries parents and our Heavenly Father. He said "From your parents perspective the change that occurs in you will be what they are most interested in, just like our Father in Heaven. He to, will be most interested in our change as we depart from this life." He told us that we should be the best missionary when we step on the plane to go home, and as we step away from this life we should be our best selves. And my very favorite part, he said that the mission we are currently serving is a microcosm of our Earthly Life. The decisions we make here, and devotion we decide to give to the Lord will effect the rest of our lives. Then he said, but our earth life is a microcosm to eternity, the decisions we make, and our devotion to the Lord will effect the rest our eternal existence.
I loved what was said, and it makes me so grateful to have a loving Heavenly Father that gave us his only Begotten Son to sacrifice Himself for the world. He gave us the opportunity to repent. Repentance was never the backup plan but it was always the plan, the perfect plan that gave us the chance to return the one who loves us most. I know these things to be true, and I stand as a witness of God's love for us. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
Love you all have a great week!
