Happy New Year

Hey everybody!! I hope everyone is having a great week! This last week was a bit hectic but really fun! Last Monday was a usual Preparation Day - I wake up and went and played basketball for 5 hours or until someone gets hurt! We then spent the night proselyting and teaching. Tuesday we had district meeting and a couple appointments with our investigators. That night we had an awesome dinner with a member family in our ward! They gave us left overs!! That's the best! Wednesday was New Years Eve and we were only allowed to proselyte until 6 then we had to head home for the rest of the night, due to all the crazy people out! haha We had two other elders spend the night at our was fun. We had a Nerf war, played some games, ect. cause that's what boys do! Haha! At 12 we went outside and there were two guys shooting guns off into the air!! WHAT?! Super crazy! I guess that's what they do here in Maryland...Thursday was probably my favorite, and also the day that kind of stunk. A group of about 45 of us missionaries rented out a sports complex and played basketball games and had tournaments all day, it was super fun! Thursday wasn't a proselyting day for us, so our president said it was okay to do that! The thing that kind of stunk was that my companion hurt his foot really bad. We went and got an x-ray on Friday and turns out he has a hairline fracture..:( his foot is super purple if you wanted to know;) and he cant walk, but we've still made it to appointments throughout the last few days! Only because we've have had the car, which is good. We were able to give two blessings yesterday to two individuals that are going into surgery in our ward tomorrow. This week was really good! And we were able to meet with all of our investigators and they all are progressing well!

I was able to set all of my new years goals over the past few days and my main goal for this year is to give my whole heart to Heavenly Father. Now that may seem pretty hard, but I have a lot of sub goals to help me achieve that.
Here is a quote that motivated me to make this goal:
"It is up to you. You cannot be changed to become more like God, if within your heart you fight against God; if within your heart you resist, resent and hold to what you rather would do. It is up to you." -unknown
Here is another one:
"Give me all. I don't want so much of your time, so much of your talents and money, and so much of your work. I want want you all of you...give yourself to me and I will make of you a new self in my image." -C.S. Lewis

By giving our hearts to Heavenly Father we can be shaped and molded into some one He wants us to be. I hope that everyone can try to reflect with the start of the new year how we can each give our whole hearts to Heavenly Father. Be an example, be a light. If there is something you need to change, change it. This new year should be looked at as a new and fresh start! I love each and everyone of you and hope you can make this year your best year! Love you all!

Love, Elder Shouse
