This week was Lit! We had the best week ever! On Wednesday I gave a
district meeting about revelation through church attendance and it
went great. Everyone committed to try extra hard and be diligent in
helping their investigators to church. This week in our district we
had 10 investigators to church! I'm so glad that my district had
success in putting the training to work!
This week we have been working a lot with our less actives and helping
them progress. We took David with us to visit Larry and have a lesson
with him. Somehow the topic of poetry came up during the lesson and
apparently Larry is a poet. He started reading us a poem called
Yesterday, and it was pretty good. He wrote it back in high school and
we were impressed, until it all came to the end of the poem... It went
from talking about time and waterfalls to him talking about his hands
like a waterfall on his girlfriend in middle school. We were so
shocked and I have to say that Elder Coburn busted up laughing first😂
I held together pretty well until he broke then we played it off
pretty well and said how good it was and changed the subject. I have
to say that one of the hardest parts of being a missionary sometimes
is having to be serious and not laugh. I am so bad about that and I
need to work on that. Everything as a missionary is so awkward and I
can't help but laugh. Anyways we all had a good laugh and I hope I
never have to hear another one of Larry's poems never again.
Also this week Elder Coburn told David (our less active) that I give
haircuts? So I gave him one. We had him shower before and his hair was
still nasty and I was grossed out but the job got done! Pictures
below!!! But this week we have been working a lot with David and his
roommate Griffin (investigator). It is cool because his roommate asks
him questions all the time and he is progressing well. They have both
given up drinking and smoking for this entire week and I'm so proud of
them. I'll let you know how they are doing after this next week👌🏼
On Saturday Brother Bready asked us to help him remodel his other
bathroom (we did his master bathroom in the fall when I was here). So
I put the finished product of his first bathroom and then the pictures
from this bathroom we are doing now. We got the subfloor down and the
hardie backer down so next week we will tile it. We have built a great
relationship with Brother Bready. It was funny because both him and I
stood back and let Elder Coburn try to measure and cut the subfloor to
put down because Elder Coburn refused to accept help from two men that
have worked in construction for years but oh well it all worked out.
He was humbled a little bit after he carried the board up and down the
stairs 8 times, measuring and recutting the board over and over. It
was so funny but we didn't laugh because I didn't want to make him
mad. We got a laugh about that at church when Brother Bready invited
Elder Coburn to report on it at church during Elders quorum. We were
laughing so hard it was golden! 😂
On Sunday we had an awesome lesson with an investigator named Colleen
and her recent convert daughter Jess. We had dinner with them and then
I set up
http://lds.org" rel="noreferrer" target="_blank">lds.org accounts for them and got them started on family
history work. They loved it and are so ready to go to the temple to do
them.
I love this work so much. I often feel like I am not the best
missionary or there are other missionaries that could do what I have
been called to do much better than me. That is until I listened to the
talk by President Uchtdorf called Lift Where You Stand. It helped me
so much this week and I definitely encourage all of you who are
reading this to talk a look at it and ponder it's message in your
hearts. And I love the words of Elder Holland in his talk this past
conference that helps me to feel good about my service. He says, "you
are doing better than you think you are." I love that and I know it's
true. Everyone have a great week!
