It has been another great week in the OCM, although it flew by so it's hard to recall most of what happened. Last Monday we met up as a zone and watched the eclipse, even though it was only 91% coverage here. It was a great time and it was cool to see all the missionaries that I haven't seen since I got here. Unfortunately, we did not have the opportunity to teach very much this week, but we still did have a lot of awesome experiences while talking to people.
One of the most influential people I have met while I have been out here is a recent convert in the ward named Jeff. He is flat out amazing. Shortly after joining the church almost 3 years ago, he started having some health issues, and he has recently been diagnosed with bone cancer and it had spread to other parts of the body. But he also has a disease that makes it so he cannot undergo radiation or chemotherapy to combat the cancer, making it extremely difficult to treat. Some days he cannot even get up from bed because he simply does not have the strength. Yet every time we visit him he is the most positive and happy person we talk to all day. The strength that he shows is almost inexplicable. Anytime that I think that what I am doing is hard, I'm reminded that he is going through much more, and that there is One who has gone through EVERYTHING. It is such a comfort and a blessing to help people know "To what source they may look for a remission of their sins", and that he has "suffered pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind"(2 Nephi 25:26 & Alma 7:11). He truly knows every little pain we go through.
He also sends us places for a reason, which I have talked about a lot. This week we went by to Tele's house, and he wasn't home, but one of his friends Roberto was. He actually spoke even less English than Tele, but I was able to talk to him in his native language and he opened up to us, and said that we can come back anytime and teach him and Tele, so we set up a time to come back this week. The Lord keeps proving to me that he knows each of us individually and what we have to offer up to Him to serve Him. I have truly seen what it means to be an instrument in His hands. I also have realized that whenever we feel trapped, lonely, or cast out we don't have to look around. We can look up!
I hope all is well with everyone, and hope you have an awesome week!
