Another week has literally flown by. Every time I email I get to reflect on all the things I did, but it all seems like it happened in a minute. This week was full of growth and reflection. I had the opportunity to attend Zone Conference as well as New Missionary training this week, and both of those were some of the most profound experiences of my life.
President Welch is straight up amazing. When he stands up and faces us, it's like we see him looking into our souls and discerning what he needs to say. When he speaks he will rattle off scripture, after scripture, after scripture, and the power that he carries in his speaking is unparalleled. At Zone Conference and New Missionary Training, I felt entranced as he spoke. I would look at him and the world around me would go quiet, as if it never even existed. These experiences led me to ponder on the question of "how does he speak with such power?" After some time I came to the realization that it is not him that is speaking, it is Him that is speaking. It led me to also realize that he cannot just summon the Spirit just whenever, he constantly seeks it and constantly lives worthy to have it.
Seek not to declare my word, but first seek to obtain my word, and then shall your tongue be loosed; then, if you desire, you shall have my Spirit and my word, yea, the power of God unto the convincing of men.
I have seen this very same promise and direction in my own missionary work. Just yesterday we were teaching a lady that we have a bible study with every week, she likes the missionaries but has never taken the lessons. It was our second meeting with us and we talking about The Plan of Salvation, and towards the end of the lesson my companion and I were able to testify to her of how the Plan of Salvation had been a part of our lives and how it has helped us, and as we did she was staring us in the eyes and we asked if she prayed to know if what we have taught her is true, and she looked us in the eyes and with the most loving tone told us "Of course, because I know YOU are from God and wouldn't be here unless you loved me."
I know that it wasn't us that led her to know that for herself, it is impossible to just convince someone it is true, it was her Father in Heaven that gave her that witness.
