Due to the ongoing changes with COVID-19, the Church is taking serious precautions for the welfare of all missionaries currently assigned or serving in the Lord’s vineyard.
Under the direction of the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve, the Missionary Department has been authorized to have young missionaries with health and other issues immediately released from service. In addition, all senior missionaries have been instructed to return home immediately for their own health and safety given their increased risk factors incident with age.
Young missionaries are considered at higher risk if they have certain medical or other conditions.
The Missionary Department and the Georgia Atlanta Mission (in consultation with the mission nurse, the Area Medical Adviser and the Area Mental Health Adviser) have identified those who meet the criteria as outlined by the Missionary Department guidelines provided under the direction of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve.
Elder Smith will be returning home in accordance with this guidance.
Elder Smith has proved to be a choice servant of the Lord and will continue to bless the lives of all the people he associates with. He has diligently consecrated his time and talents to bringing souls unto Christ.
Sister Clayton and I have enjoyed seeing Elder Smith strengthen his testimony of Christ’s restored gospel. Elder Smith taught by example. He courageously followed the spirit and uplifted those he served.
We are grateful for the opportunity that we had to serve with your son. We have great trust that he will remain a strong disciple of Jesus Christ the remainder of his life.
You will receive information regarding Elder Smith’s departure within the next 24 hours.
