This past week has been a lot of moving around. Last Tuesday we all had interviews with the President of our mission, and then a meeting on Wednesday as a zone. In my interviews he told me that in the upcoming transfer he wanted me to train. This was kinda news, but I had heard from other missionaries that I was probably going to train sometime soon. I was pretty excited and was looking forward to it. The plan was to stay in a trio for 4 weeks until the new missionaries came and I would go to Bogotá to the temple to meet the new kids in the CCM and then train one of them.
The next day during our meetings we had a break and I was in the hallway getting a drink when Presidente told me that I was going to replace an Elder in another zone that was finishing his mission. I knew him because he was the old Assistant to President only 3 weeks earlier. So I was told to pack my bags that night and in the morning I would leave with President and his Assistants. Thursday morning we left and I arrived in my area that night.
I'm now in a new area called Fusagasugá as part of the Zone Soacha, Bogotá. I was told I was to be in a trio until the other Elder left to go home. Then I would be in full training mode. My (kid) as we would call it in the mission his name is Elder Hon from Gilbert, Arizona and he has 3 weeks in the field. The other missionary who will be my comp until he leaves, (he leaves today) is my comp. His name is Elder Burley and funny enough he's from the same ward in Gilbert, Arizona. They are both really cool guys and it's been a good time since I got here a few days ago.
Now to talk a little bit about Fusagasuga or as everyone calls it, Fusa. It's a population of about 300,000 people, so not huge but not too tiny. Fusa is located about 2 hours south of Bogota in the mountains, and the city is kind of on a giant hill. So we are walking a lot and getting in a good workout. The elevation is quite a bit higher than Villavicencio so I've been getting winded a lot easier Haha. The weather is so perfect. Its dry and never gets to hot, and at night it's just cold enough that hopping in bed at night is pretty awesome. The people are quite different, it's similar to the culture of Bogota with drinking hot chocolate and similar foods. Our area is really cool and the church is about a 15 minute walk from the house.
Now the people. So there are only 4 Elders in all of Fusa. Us and another companionship of one American and a Guatemalan. Our ward is really awesome and super strong. People have a little bit more money here, the houses are nicer and a lot more people have a car or a motorcycle. It seems like everyone here is more committed to the church and really wants to grow the ward. There are a bunch of recent converts that are my age and they are really cool peeps. They like to accompany us on visits and they are all going on a mission soon, or are preparing to. I feel pretty good, and I'm happy where I am.
Thanks for everything and for the prayers and I'll talk to you guys next week! Nos vemos en la próxima semana. Les Quiero muchisimo!
