Asoke Thailand

Elder Taylor

Week 31- Burmese and Chinese.

This short week was a blast! It was super busy and we worked hard. This was the first tranfer that I kept a companion, so it was kind of nice to just work and get going like normal.

We met some awesome people this week. We went to go visit a Burmese investigator, and we met her husband. His name is Tom and he speaks really good English. It's funny, because in that family the wife speaks Burmese and Thai, the husband speaks Burmese and English, and we speak English and Thai. So when we go teach them some more this coming week, it's going to be a very multi lingual lesson.
When we met Tom, we introduced the book of Mormon to him. He was Christian, and grew up loving Christ. We told him how the book talks all about Christ! We read Moroni 10:3-5 with him, which promises the reader that they can know the truth of all things through the power of the holy ghost. When we read that, he said, "I felt it just then. I felt the holy spirit". Then he asked us, "Elders, I didn't feel this way when the Jehovah witnesses were teaching me. So now I know that this Book is true." It was awesome.

Also, one of our investigators brought their kids to church! It was cool, we got to teach them as a family! So this lady, จิ๋ม,is the catholic investigator we have, and she always asks way good questions about the Book of Mormon. Throughout the course of the lesson, she was saying that she read somewhere that our church doesn't worship Jesus Christ, but we worship all the Book of Mormon prophets instead. That of course, is not true, we do indeed worship Christ. We talk about the prophets alot because they talk of and teach us about Christ, but we don't worship the prophets. It was cool though, because we were able to clear up some misconceptions about the church and teach her son too! It was a fun lesson!

A funny person we met this week was a crazy Chinese lady. We started talking to her about our church and in her broken English she was trying to explain to us something about how her ancestors are in the stars and that we all should worship the stars or something like that. We were just like "yeah uhuh yeah exactly!" and then she was like, "see we are same". It was crazy. But, she gave us her number and she said if we are ever in China we could stop by and say hi. So maybe in the future if she ever runs into missionaries who speak her language, they'll help her understand we don't worship the stars.

That was about the week.
But this week I studied a talk by President Utchdorf, from 2013 called You Can Do It Now! It's an amazing talk, and talks about failure. In life, we'll encounter failure, alot! But that's OK! President Utchdorf said, "No one likes to fail. And we particularly don’t like it when others—especially those we love—see us fail. We all want to be respected and esteemed. We want to be champions. But we mortals do not become champions without effort and discipline or without making mistakes.
Brethren, our destiny is not determined by the number of times we stumble but by the number of times we rise up, dust ourselves off, and move forward."

So I'd like to invite all you to remember, if you stumble and fall, and you're struggling, it's all good! That's part of life! Just rely on Christ and His grace, and with His help, you can do (fill in the blank with your goals/desires),starting now!

Love yall! Have a great week!
