Week 25- Transfers and Asoke!
สวัสดีครับทุกคนครับ
How is everyone! These last few days have flew by!
I arrived in Asoke early Thursday morning, and I met my new companion there! Elder Taylor from Mesa, Arizona! How rad is that! He literally lived not that far from where I lived! I was so stoked to meet him! Thursday we waited around a bit because I had to go to a trainer meeting Thursday afternoon, but after that we went to our apartment and dropped my stuff off and went to work.
But first, a word about our apartment. This room is brand new to missionaries, meaning elder Taylor and his last companion only lived in it for two days before I got there, and it's brand spanking new. So clean, so nice, and we're on the 44th floor! Our ears literally pop on the way up and down in the elevator! And the view is spectacular! There are so many big cool buildings all around us, and at night the lights are way pretty!
So after I dropped my stuff off at the house, we went out to visit some investigators, and then we had a dinner appointment with a couple in the international ward, Elder and Sister Barrow. They are from Texas, and have come here to retire. They were so nice and fed us really good middle Eastern food.
So in Asoke there is one international ward where all the people who have moved to Thailand from other places can go to church in English. Usually, there is a Companionship of sisters who are over the international ward, but that Companionship were taken out. So, we have been assigned over the international ward as well as our normal Thai ward.
The rest of the week was just getting me caught up on people we meet with and the area, and trying to get the house sorted out as well. Since it is so new, we had to buy supplies for it as well and try to coordinate with the landlord about getting us a microwave, stove, and washer machine (which all were suppose to come with the house). Then on Sunday, we were able to go to the international ward's meetings and the Thai ward's meetings. It was super weird going to the meetings in English, but everyone in the ward is so nice so I'm excited to be serving with them. In the Thai ward, brother สมชาย(somchay) who was baptized last week, was confirmed and got the Gift of the Holy Ghost in sacrament meeting. So president Hammond actually goes to that ward, so when he met and talked with Somchay, he wanted to get to know him more. So president Hammond actually Invited us and brother Somchay over to his house for Sunday dinner. It was a delicious dinner. We had some American rarities at their house (mainly ranch dressing. Ranch dressing doesn't exist here) and we all shared some thoughts with brother Somchay about how the spirit can help us in life and how we can be strong in the future even when life gets rough. It was really fun.
So it was an eventful last few days. I'm really grateful to be serving here in Asoke, the city of the Thailand Bangkok temple. It is a really cool place, but I still don't feel quite ready to be training yet, or quite good enough to be on such an important part of Thailand. But I know the work of the lord will move forward (1 Nephi 9:6). I was reassured even more by the scriptures this week that the Lord will help me me (or anyone) accomplish the things they need to do through 1 Nephi 17. I highly recommend that chapter because it is so good. Verse 3 says, "3 And thus we see that the commandments of God must be fulfilled. And if it so be that the children of men keep the commandments of God he doth nourish them, and strengthen them, and provide means whereby they can accomplish the thing which he has commanded them; wherefore, he did provide means for us while we did sojourn in the wilderness."
So hey just keep working, keep doing your best, and the lord will bless you. Work hard to put your faith in Christ and trust in Him and His ways and nothing can stop you!
Love ya all... have a greet week!
