Coronavirus update

Hey everyone,

This is Tell’s mom. I have had a bunch of you worried about Elder Orton and how he is doing with the coronavirus and everything going on here. He is great! The virus hasn’t effected anything in Ghana yet and we are grateful! He says he isn’t worried about it at all. He is praying for everyone here at home and he loves you all. We just got an email from his mission president that we thought we’d put on for you. Thanks for your support!!

Dear Parents and guardians of the Ghana Accra Missionaries.

We love your missionaries. They are wonderful.

Many parents will naturally be concerned about the spread of the coronavirus. We assure you that your missionary is safe and is being watched over. We record for your information the following:

1. We have instructed our missionaries what to do to prevent them contracting the virus. In particular we have instructed them to:

Frequently clean hands with soap and water or alcohol-based hand cleaner.
Cover nose and mouth with a tissue or elbow when coughing or sneezing. Immediately dispose of the tissue.
Avoid close contact with anyone who has cold-like or flu-like symptoms, including avoiding shaking hands or other customary greetings.
Thoroughly cook meat and eggs.
Avoid unprotected contact with wild animals or farm animals.
We request that you encourage your missionary to adhere to these health principles.

2. Every day we obtain information from the missionaries as to whether any of them have flu like symptoms and furnish the area presidency with the detail.

3. The Missionary Department is closely monitoring the development of COVID-19 throughout the world and is in close contact with Area Presidencies, area medical advisers, and health professionals.

4. The Church’s Newsroom has created a webpage where they are posting updates on how COVID-19 is impacting members and missionaries worldwide.

5. For the US missionaries we are aware that President Trump has made certain policies which places certain restricts on travel from Europe etc to the USA. We await the mission departments instructions on how the departing missionaries will return home after their mission to the USA.

Presently we know of no cases of anyone having the virus in Ghana.

We will keep you updated of any changes.
