Elder Cook

Merry Christmas!!

The highlight of our Christmas was getting to talk to Elder Orton! He is doing great! We hope you all had a great Christmas and can feel our Saviors love for you at this special time of year. We love you Tell and hope you know how proud we are of you!

We received a letter from Tells mission President this morning that we would like to include on here to save for later.

Dear Parents
Mission continues to be an amazing experience. The introduction of the new missionary handbook entitled “Missionary Standards for Disciples of Jesus Christ” states:
“Your mission didn’t really begin the day you were set apart and won’t end the day you are released. A mission isn’t like putting on an employee or school uniform in the morning only to take it off again when the day is done. Since the time you were baptized, you have been on the covenant path that leads to eternal happiness, joy, and peace. Your full-time mission experience can be a transforming event but should also be an integral part of your life mission experience.
When seen from an eternal perspective, your full-time mission experience is more than a check box to be marked off—it is a means to continue becoming a lifelong disciple of Jesus Christ.
The Prophet Joseph Smith reflected on the blessings and privileges we have when we decide to become part of this great work of salvation. He asked the early Saints, “Brethren [and sisters], shall we not go on in so great a cause? Go forward and not backward. Courage, brethren [and sisters]; and on, on to the victory! Let your hearts rejoice, and be exceedingly glad” (Doctrine and Covenants 128:22).”
We are doing all we can to help your missionary enjoy their missionary experience and to help them to prepare for the rest of their life as a mother or father and as a Disciples of Jesus Christ. This is a time for them to rejoice and to experience lasting happiness and peace through Jesus Christ.
In my recent interviews with the missionaries I asked some of the missionaries what they really enjoy about mission. One missionary’s response made a lasting impression on me. He simply said, “watching the smiles on the faces on people’s faces as he teaches them”. That is what mission is about – bring the good news (the Atonement of Jesus Christ) to all of our Heavenly Father’s children.
This year seems to have just flown by! Know that we do care about each and every one of our dear missionaries. Their health and wellbeing is our number one priority. We love each and every one of them and see each one of them as our own.
