Week 7

Hey everyone!

My week has been pretty good. Tuesday night we went on a 24 hour exchange with the zone leaders. I went with Elder Wilkins to his area. He’s from Snowflake Arizona. We got along pretty good. His family used to own a big ranch in Missouri. I don't know why they don't anymore but we talked about cows literally the whole exchange unless we were teaching. It was great! In one of the lessons I had the coolest experience! The power was out. We were teaching a girl who is the owner of a cafe here in town. She doesn't make money when the power is out. She picked me to pray to begin the lesson. In the prayer I asked for the power to come on so that she could make money to provide for her family. Almost right after I said amen the power came on. She started cheering and jumped up and started dancing around! It was pretty cool! After that we had a great lesson about the book of mormon and why it is so important. Thursday we had zone conference all day so we didn't get much done that day. Friday we just contacted. Most of our lessons went good though. Saturday we had a good day too. We got a really good contact. He stopped us and asked us what we were doing in Africa. He said he felt like he should talk to us and find out why we were here. We gave him a pamplet and got his info and have a lesson set up for Tuesday. Well... Sunday (yesterday) was an adventure. We had an experience in church and I was trying so hard not to blow a fuse. There is so much false docterine taught here that it’s almost not even church. The fight we had with two of the members in investigator class was ridiculous. They were saying that graves are dedicated so that satan cannot posses the body. First, satan can’t posses dead bodies. Second, we dedicate graves as a final resting place for the body until the second coming. It was a bad deal. My companion and I had to leave so we didn't get ourselves in trouble. There has been alot of rain this week! It’s been kind of nice actually. It makes it cool at night so it’s not so hot when your trying to sleep. I’ll send some pictures and a video of it. It’s really loud when it rains here because the drops are about the size of a quarter i swear! You guys sound like it’s raining there like it does here! Except we probably get that much rain in one day here haha. It’s rained a couple times here this week.

Love you all,
Elder Orton

Pictures this week:
The first two pictures are me with a member. I hypnotized the chicken in between my feet. (Thanks to my cousin Heston for showing me how to do that! I knew it would come in handy some day! 😂) Everyone loved that!
The next two are a sculpture I found. It was funny so I got a picture.
The next three are the outside of my apartment.
The next is a picture of the bathrooms over the gutter.
The next three is a giant snail shell. Apparently they eat them here so that will be fun...
Next is an amazing hamburger I made and the next is pizza factory alfredo I made. It was good but not as good as home. The butter here is yucky!

My thoughts on going without social media like the prophet asked the women to do for 10 days. I don't know what it is but since I've been out I haven't really even noticed not having my phone or anything like that. I notice myself more social. I know that’s hard to imagine me being more social but I guess it’s possible. haha. It makes it so I have to have a conversation with people instead of being able to hide in my phone screen. I feel like it’s a good thing to not have it because when you have it you can ignore people easier and that’s not a good thing. For example, when I was on dates and a girl would sit on her phone it would bug me because I was spending my time and money for her to sit on her phone and ignore me.
