It Just Keeps Getting Better!
This past week has been GREAT! And this next week is shaping up to be the best week yet in this area! We have run into a few minor bumps with Investigators, that I consulted with President Mendenhall about, and fortunately they have ALL worked themselves out!
Toni is doing GREAT and is still on track to be baptized this month. It is really cool to see this bringing their whole family together and strengthening everyone! The sad news was Wendy, her mother, had to go to the hospital this week with a pretty serious issue in her knee. She has had a lot of issues with her knee and things were not looking good. Toni called us to let us know, and I asked her to read Doctrine and Covenants section 121. She texted us back a couple minutes later and said "Thank you for the scripture. I felt a peace and calm feeling come over me. I know this is the Holy Spirit beginning to work in me and I love it! Thanks again" It was just amazing to see her recognize that Spirit!
We haven't been able to have a full lesson with Albert, but we have talked to him a few times, and he is still doing well and praying about getting baptized. We should be meeting with him tomorrow.
We have been able to get in contact with a lot of people that had been taught by missionaries previously. The missionaries did not keep good records, so we have about 6 lessons planned the rest of this week with people like that, who we are excited to see!
We were also able to get in contact with Melanie, someone who is investigating the Church with her boyfriend, Eric. It was my first time meeting with her, because she has been out of town and sick since I got to this area. Well, in our first lesson, we set some expectations and we talked about how she wants to get baptized. I brought up her living with Eric, and she said she figured she would have to get married first before they could join the Church, and they are OK with that! The missionaries previously were afraid to bring that up, so it was a mini-miracle that they are so open and willing! We will have dinner with both of them later this week and teach them and hopefully set a baptismal date with them!
We did indeed get to go to the temple this morning, and as always, it was a wonderful and glorious occasion! I got to talk a bit with President and Sister Mendenhall, which is always my favorite thing to do! I also found out that a few of the other people that Elder Layton and I had found and started teaching in Boulder, are doing really well. One guy named Ryan is basically just trying to quit smoking, and he says he does want to be baptized. We are praying for him!
Overall things are continuing to go wonderfully! It is still so weird to me that I have been serving for almost a year, but I am so incredibly blessed to have another year to serve!
I will close with a scripture I shared with the District here in Brighton yesterday during our District Meeting: Doctrine and Covenants, Section 33: 7-15
7 Yea, verily, verily, I say unto you, that the field is white already to harvest; wherefore, thrust in your sickles, and reap with all your might, mind, and strength.
8 Open your mouths and they shall be filled, and you shall become even as Nephi of old, who journeyed from Jerusalem in the wilderness.
9 Yea, open your mouths and spare not, and you shall be laden with sheaves upon your backs, for lo, I am with you.
10 Yea, open your mouths and they shall be filled, saying: Repent, repent, and prepare ye the way of the Lord, and make his paths straight; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand;
11 Yea, repent and be baptized, every one of you, for a remission of your sins; yea, be baptized even by water, and then cometh the baptism of fire and of the Holy Ghost.
12 Behold, verily, verily, I say unto you, this is my gospel; and remember that they shall have faith in me or they can in nowise be saved;
13 And upon this rock I will build my church; yea, upon this rock ye are built, and if ye continue, the gates of hell shall not prevail against you.
14 And ye shall remember the church articles and covenants to keep them.
15 And whoso having faith you shall confirm in my church, by the laying on of the hands, and I will bestow the gift of the Holy Ghost upon them.
Obviously as missionaries this has a special meaning to us, but I believe it applies to us all as believers of Christ. We must all be willing to testify of Christ at all times knowing that He is there to help us every step of the way, because this is His work, not ours!
I love you all and appreciate your continued support! God Bless!
