Transferred - Now Serving In Brighton Colorado

What a week it has been! It has been interesting to say the least. For anyone who doesn't know, I was transferred, and I’m now serving in Brighton. This past week was a good and a tough one. Christmas eve we were supposed to spend the day with families in our ward and not proselyte. It was also a P-day so we had to get all of that done. We were allowed to watch two movies but Elder Layton and I just watched one at the house of Skyler Davis. He is this awesome kid in our ward that comes out with us teaching all the time. Their family houses the Spanish Missionaries in Boulder, so we had some fun there. We went home to go get some stuff to make some Christmas desserts. We had found out that morning that both Elder Layton and I were going to be transferred, so I was thinking about that in the car. We were on the way back to the Davis family and I looked over at Elder Layton and said “let’s go hiking!” We turned around quickly and went and changed and got some flashlights and drove up to the mountains and had a night hike. It was awesome and we were glad we could go up in the mountains one last time. We found some crazy cool spots too!

Christmas was good! We spent it at the McDonald family's house. They are a BLAST! They are like the awesome family that adopts the missionaries. We loved them so much! So Christmas was pretty good with them. I also got to skype home, which is always a nice couple of minutes!

It was tough saying goodbye to everyone in Boulder, but luckily we should be going back in 3 weeks for Ian's baptism.
Ian is sooo amazing! He is so ready to learn and accept things. He has had a pretty rough past, but he is so sincere in his desire to learn about God. We are praying everything goes well with him! It was tough to say goodbye to some of our foreign investigators. They just didn't understand why we had to leave. I will keep praying for them and trusting that the Lord knows what is best!

Now for the update, I am now serving in the Brighton Stake in the Buffalo Run and Barr Lake wards. Emma Gifford, a missionary who served in the Winnebago YSA ward back home, lives in the Barr Lake ward, so I will get to know her family pretty well! It’s a crazy small world!! I replaced Elder Heiner, the missionary I trained down in Parker. I am follow-up training the Elder he started to train, Elder Hansen, who is my new companion. He is a good kid from Boise Idaho. I am excited to serve with him. He is a little goofy, but aren't we all?

It is going to be tough. I am doing things very differently from how things have been done here the last 6 months or so. There is a lot of good work going on here in the stake. I am serving as the district leader and the district covers the whole stake. There is another district for the Spanish missionaries here. There are 5 companionships in our district and to be honest, I am disappointed with some of the things that have been happening lately here. I love all the missionaries that are here and were here before, but a lot of things were not being done correctly. I am going to try my best to do a good job and am praying for inspiration on how to help make necessary changes to what needs to be. Either way, I am excited to be here!

Missionary work is tough, it never gets easier, we just get stronger. Some days are harder then others, and from what it looks like, I have quite a few hard days ahead of me, but I love it here. I shared my testimony with Mom and Dad and Chris, and I told them there is no place I would rather be right now. And it is true, I love it here! I know that this is where I need to be. Sometimes I get frustrated because I know I am so far from who and what I need to be, but I know the Lord is molding me. And for that I am grateful!

I love you all!
Elder Steven Richards
