Hola everybody!
Another good week in the books for the MT View YSA Elders! This week was actually awesome! We had a lot of good stuff happen! I will share a few!
The last two weeks we have had a TON of success tracting, mostly just because we have been really good about using all our spare time going out finding people! We had a member go out with us on Saturday and he was like, “Do you always have this much success talking with people?” We told him yah pretty much, and he said he had never seen missionaries have this much success just talking to people! That made us feel good, and it reassured us that we are working hard!
We had a pretty deep lesson with our investigator Richard. He is awesome, but the lesson got a little heavy. We talked about the Law of Chastity and the Plan of Salvation. He got a bit upset and was not really happy. Elder Layton and I walked away knowing that we delivered the message that we were there to deliver and felt really good about how it went. We followed up on Saturday, with a lesson on Charity and that was also exactly what he needed. He thanked us for being inspired to teach that lesson.
We got invited to another Bible Study by some new investigators, and we attended. It is quite interesting to me. We could tell that the guy running the Bible Study felt threatened by us, even though we never made an argumentative remark, and we backed all of our comments with verses from the bible. It was still a good experience, and we will go again next week, and then meet with the investigators 2 days after. They are the couple that the guy went to school in Appleton, WI. We need to pass them off to some family ward missionaries pretty soon, so that is sad!
The coolest story probably happened Saturday. We stopped a girl getting in her car and she told us right away she believes in science and doesn't believe in God. I told her the study of science is the exact same as the study of God and drew parallels and we started sharing scriptures with her. She quickly said that she wouldn't disbelieve God if it was shown to her that he was real. She had just never been shown. We began to explain how we get answers and in the most sincere voice, she looked at us and asked "Can I get an answer like that?" As we testified that she could, and also that she WOULD, if she wanted to get an answer, she excitedly asked when we could come back to tell her more. :) She also asked us for a Book of Mormon. That is what this work is all about – meeting people like her who are just waiting to receive the answers God has for them!
Elder Layton and I made a “whoopsie” and have to take care of a situation with our phone! We may, or may not, have left our phone on our car and drove down the road with it still on top.....
I love you all and am so grateful for the Christmas season we have ahead of us and the chance we have to remember Christ and all that He has done for us. We had an interesting experience where someone told us we believed in a "different Gospel." When I asked her what she meant, she explained that they believed Christ's sacrifice was "enough" and our works weren't necessary. I quickly agreed with her that we did believe in a different Gospel. That we believed Christ not only died for our sins, but provided the way for us to improve to become more like Him. He provided a way for us to change. True love of a parent comes not just from forgiving a child's mistakes, but by expecting improvement, and helping them to improve. I know that this is true. We must never think that we cannot change. We not only can, but we must change, if we wish to become like Christ.
I’ll close with this scripture from the Book of Mormon:
Moroni 7:48 – “Wherefore, my beloved brethren, pray unto the Father with all the energy of heart, that ye may be filled with this love, which he hath bestowed upon all who are true followers of his Son, Jesus Christ; that ye may become the sons of God; that when he shall appear we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is; that we may have this hope; that we may be purified even as he is pure. Amen.”
I love you all! Thank you!
