Once again another great week in Parker, Colorado!
I can’t remember if I said in my last letter, but in my interview with President Mendenhall two weeks ago he gave me permission to train and run a half marathon while I am out here! So this past week I decided to kind of start training. There are several members in the ward who want me to run the race with them so I am looking into what race I want to run. There is a half marathon in Parker on Sep 5 that I might run that a couple told me about. Our ward Mission Leader wants to run with me but when I told him I would be able to prepare in just a month he got mad lol. He says he doesn’t want to run it that soon. SO we will see what happens!
We are continuing to do a really good job of teaching lessons and continuing to find more and more less active members that truly want to be able to become active again but are struggling to find the way to do that. So we are still working with many of them. I think we made good contact with 4 new less actives last week and have appointments to set up and go back and teach them again!
Things are going well with the Callahans, an older couple we have been teaching. They have a son who joined the church so they know quite a bit. We are working hard to help them progress! The husband is stubborn but the wife is open and so he will follow her whatever she does so we are focusing on her to start with. We had dinner with them this week and it was AMAZING! Not just for the food but the lesson after and the spirit that was present was great!
We haven’t been able to see Becca because she had family in town and a lot of little kids running around so we are teaching her a few times this week and introducing her to this AWESOME young family in the ward that will be really good fellow shippers and friends.
We are working hard to find more people to teach but I got to say, our bishop is every missionaries dream. He is sooooo focused on missionary work and we had a combined priesthood and relief society on Sunday which focused on missionary work. HE compares the ward to what kind of student he was in high school. A B+ student who had all the capabilities to be better but wasn’t interested in working hard. He talked about how he struggles with doing missionary work but with tear filled eyes, he got up there and said "I want you to know, I am in. I am in to do whatever the missionaries ask me. I am in to make a difference." It was a really cool moment. We are excited to continue to teach the member missionary lessons we have come up with and continue helping people learn how to change their perspective on missionary work.
Also, we continue to place a HUGE emphasis on the Fort Collins Temple open house. We share a lesson about it and leave a commitment with the members every single time we have dinner or any other opportunity with them. We have been using it in finding opportunities on the street and every other chance we get. Sometimes.. Miracles happen.... Yesterday we invited a neighbor of ours to go with his wife, and in turn we got invited to a Luau. Like a super legit luau.. They are hiring Polynesian dancers and fire performers.. So that a pretty cool blessing of missionary work ;)
Lastly, I think I have a new girlfriend...... There is this little girl in the ward who for some reason, has taken a liking to me. Every week in church she makes faces at me and won’t stop. Yesterday their family sat next to us and she wouldn’t stop reaching behind my companion to poke me. So in an attempt to quiet her down a little I drew her a picture... It worked and she was quiet. We just so happened to have dinner with their family last night and guess who she wanted to sit by at dinner.... It is actually quite hilarious and I couldn’t stop laughing. Oh the joys of missionary work.
This next week we have the wonderful blessing of attending the temple on Wednesday. I am so grateful, especially because we continue to talk and teach people about the blessings of the temple, it is nice to be able to go and renew our conviction and experience those blessings in the temple. What an amazing place!
I continue to feel every day the upward pull to become something and someone better. I know firsthand, that I cannot accomplish the things our Father in Heaven wants me to without the help of my Savior. I am so grateful for his unfiltered help that he offers to me and to each of us. All we must do is ask and Come Unto Christ!
Thank you for your help and support while I am serving. Not every day is easy, in fact, no day is easy. But I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. I am so grateful for this time I have to dedicate to the Lords service.
