Many Investigators
Hello everyone,
Well, it was a different week this week. It is getting more windy and it rained a couple of times too. I am so pumped for the rainy season. Yay!
Q, A, and Comments -
Katelyn, great job on South Pacific and The Tempest. I loved the pictures. You still look so different with your dark hair, but I'm certain you had a good time. Also, nicely done for getting into English 101 and 102. Hopefully you get Mrs. Swanson next year. You'll love her.
Happy Anniversary Jacob and Kiersty! How many years is it now? 2? 3? Can't recall. I hope it was special and things are going well!
Congrats Brennan and Jakob! You guys will enjoy your missions a lot. Prepare much and maybe go on splits with the missionaries too sometimes.
What was the holiday last week? I'm not certain actually. It caused everything to be closed for the day.
Something about Sierra Leone -
Kids here in Freetown like to call us white elders, 'Ching Chong'. Meaning to say, 'Chinese'. They seem to think we are Chinese and try to get our attention that way. It's common, like someone saying 'white man' or 'pumwe'.
The week -
This week we've been focusing on preparing our baptism candidates for this Saturday's (29th) baptism. Sister Sallymatu: she has been an investigator for a while. She doesn't speak English too well, but she is friends with some recent converts so they help out a lot. Sarah and Michael: Not sure if I mentioned them before. They are from a part-member family. Sarah is about 18 and lives with her sister and Michael is her sister's son. Michael is 8 years old and very excited for his baptism. Sister Bangura: also a long-time investigator with troubles of understanding English, but she has a member living nearby and she has a kind nature. Brother Jeremiah: we've only been teaching him for about a transfer, but he is a long time church attender and a fast learner. I'll try to share any especially particular stories about them when possible.
Augusta and Cordelia are other investigators that would also be baptized this Saturday, but they haven't been to church that much lately so we are needing to push back their baptism dates a little sadly.
Elder Cornista -
Many weeks back I mentioned about how Elder Cornista wasn't feeling well. He got better for a short time, but troubles came back again. It's gotten so bad that the tests they need to take to find out the problem are only available in Ghana. The office elders picked him up last Saturday night to fly with President and Sister Clawson Sunday morning. President and Sister Clawson are going to Ghana for the Mission President Training. We got a call from Elder Cornista this morning that he is still in Sierra Leone. He is staying with some elders in, I think Lungi. He was still in Sierra Leone. At the airport they found out that Elder Cornista doesn't have a visa for Ghana. He went to the Philippines Missionary Training Center, not Ghana, so he does not have a visa. They are working on it. After the tests we will know more. Elder Cornista may come back here, stay in Ghana for the rest of his mission, or may need to be sent home for other medical needs. The last few days before he left was hard for us as an apartment. We are praying that things go alright and that he can come back. He signed in my journal before he left and I am so touched by the spirit he has. He is another mission brother to me. I love the guy dearly and hope for the best.
This was my week. I love your emails and keep them coming. Have a stupendous week and evermore. I love you all soooo much!!!
Love,
Elder Rogers
