This week was great. We had the baptism of José Manuel it was very special and as he came out of the font I asked him how he felt and he said "Wow, I didn't know it was gonna feel like that!" It was really funny when Elder Schmutz went to do the baptism interview with him he talked with Esterlina, José Manuels grandma and she said she wanted Elder Schmutz to talk to him about respecting his parents and listening to them. When Elder Schmutz said that to José Manuel he said "OH NO! I can't do that. My mom is a sinner! She doesn't even go to church. I gotta listen to my grandma she's the one on the path to Jesus." I died laughing when Elder Schmutz told me that. There were many members at the baptism and I think my favorite part was that Esterlina gave the opening prayer and said a very sincere and loving prayer. The best part about the mission is seeing the people you are teaching or have taught grow and progress. We also had a big miracle as there was a guy named Sergio who was going to get baptized last Saturday but in his baptismal interview last Thursday he said he didn't want to commit to living the Law of Chastity. When the district leader called me and told me I was pretty bummed as he and I had gone to put the baptism with that guy about a month ago and he seemed pretty solid in his decision a month ago. The sisters had to cancel the baptism and then Saturday morning Sergio called the sisters and said he wanted another interview. So this time I went and we taught the Law Chastity very well and the importance of why God wants us to live chaste lives. Sergio said "I know this is what God wants me to do and said I will obey this law. Can I still be baptized today?" We did the interview really fast and then later that day in the afternoon he was baptized. After 6 months of learning from the sister he finally was baptized it was a great miracle. It was a great week here in Chile. Elder Stiver and I are doing great. I love you all and I hope you guys have a great week.
Love, Elder McDonald
