Summer has come to an end and we are now having temperatures in the 60s and low 70s during the day. School started on Sept. 4, so we do not have youth coming during the week for baptisms at the temple except now on the weekends.
On Saturday, a couple was sealed in the morning. He is from Albania, and she is from England. Then, that afternoon they were baptized for their ancestors.
What was also interesting that day in the baptistry was a former missionary who had served here when Richard served in the early 1970s. His name is Harold Dupaix and he came with his daughter to do baptisms. His taxi got lost, and he came just when we needed him. He baptized most of the patrons and he was able to do it in French. He also baptized the husband and wife we just talked about, but in English. We knew his brother, Fred Dupaix, in a BYU Ward when we first got married. Richard also worked with his niece, Michelle Dupaix. Small world!
A week ago in our family home evening with the senior missionaries, our temple president and his wife, Gerard and Annie Giraud-Carrier, as well as the first counselor and his wife, Pierre and Josiane Lazerus, talked about their calls to serve in the temple presidency. It was very interesting to see how they went about organizing and preparing for this new temple. Pres. Lionel Bertrand, second counselor, and his wife, Joelle, were instrumental in many areas too. The Lazerus couple had applied for a mission and were awaiting a call. You never know how things can change your life and its direction.
We didn’t venture out on our p-day this week, but cleaned our apartment and did our laundry. Sometimes you just need to recover from the week.
We are very grateful to be serving as temple missionaries and witnessing the hastening of the work for the living and those who have gone before. We know we are blessed as we serve. Elder Vaughan J. Featherstone once said, “I promise that all who faithfully attend to temple work will be blessed beyond measure. Your families will draw closer to the Lord, unseen angels will watch over your loved ones when Satanic forces tempt them, the veil will be thin and great spiritual experiences will distill upon this people.”
The pictures are on the temple grounds or near it.
