Covid & Silver Linings
Greetings friends and family!
Well, I tested positive for covid last Thursday. My symptoms were a low-grade fever that lasted a couple of day, scratchy throat, and minor cough. My companion was positive too. We quarantined in our apartment since then, only leaving to get a very overdue haircut and groceries. We also accepted food members delivered to us one day. It took two years for me to get covid so...not bad!
I have been using some of this time to refocus, uproot, and renew my efforts as a missionary.
Refocus:
January so far has been a big fluke in my daily schedule. I plan to refocus my efforts on my daily schedule, making sure to pray, and spend time in the scriptures each morning.
Uprooting:
I am uprooting old, unnecessary habits, and replacing them with better habits. These new habits, including a more structured daily routine, will help me be a better disciple of Jesus Christ and a better person.
Renew:
Many things this month made it easy to get discouraged and disinterested in my purpose as a missionary. Every missionary has the same purpose (we are counseled to memorize our purpose. I have it memorized in Spanish and English):
"Invite others to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end."
I am renewing my motivation to be a better missionary. Hopefully, even my efforts will help improve my motivation.
I also used quarantine to shine my shoes, set up our smoke alarm, organize my desk, and clean. I hope you think of something necessary to declutter your life as well (physically or metaphorically).
Also please continue to pray for sick people everywhere, including the missionaries. Seven or eight missionaries (including us both) got covid this week out of about 90 total missionaries in the mission.
Thank you for your support and prayers! This was a short one just to let you know how I am doing. If you have any specific questions about Mexico or anything, you can email me at williams.r@missionary.org.
All the best,
Elder Williams/Grant
