First and foremost... Merry Christmas everyone! Sorry this email is coming a day late... there were power outages during my computer time on Christmas. Luckily I had enough time to video call home. Anyway I will proceed with the usual weekly email now.
Tuesday we had our district meeting and the zls were able to attend. After the meeting the zls drove us out to Mulenga Compound for a baptismal interview for Phillis which she passed with flying colors. She choose me to play the role of John the Baptist haha so I was super excited! After we finished that interview we caught a bus back to town and the zls drove back to their area. Once we made it back to our area we taught Alfred again and it went really well. Alfred really surprised by actually keeping the commitments we gave him. He actually read the whole Restoration pamphlet and the Introduction to the Book of Mormon! This doesn't usually happen haha but anyway Alfred was so ready to learn and added a lot to the lesson with his questions and knowledge of the Bible. After we finished that lesson we went and taught Shadrack and all of his family except his sick brother James. We taught the Restoration and it went pretty good. The family seemed to accept it pretty well. We finished the evening with a dinner appointment at our District Presidents house. He fed us Nshima, beans, and fish and it was really good.
Wednesday we had a rough start to our morning trying to meet with some investigators that ended up just sending us on a wild goose chase...so we have pretty much dropped them. Anyway later we went and met up with Emmanuel again and that lesson was a little rough haha I mean no offense but he just isn't the most intelligent person we have taught so we will most likely be dropping him also. After that we met with Alfred again and he surprised us again with his commitment keeping. He actually read most of the Plan of Salvation pamphlet and he read 2 Nephi 2:22-25 about the Fall of Adam and Eve. He told us that reading those verses answered all of his questions about the Fall so that was awesome because some people we teach here get caught up on that topic but he totally excepted it. The lesson went really well until we got towards the end and talked about the Kingdoms of Glory. That is when he had a lot more questions and our answers didn't seem to satisfy him so we agreed to come back another time to discuss it more. Later in the evening we had another dinner appointment at a members house which was really good. The Munuga family fed all 8 of the missionaries in the district Nshima, cooked cabbage, and chicken. It was really good!
Thursday we contacted a referral from the other Elders staying with us. The guy we contacted is named Bob. He is actually a pretty cool guy who has his mind set on investigating our church and he even told us that he would possibly even like to join. That of course got us really excited to begin teaching him. We taught him the Restoration and it went really well. He was excited when we told him we could bring him a copy of the Book of Mormon the next day. After we finished that lesson we went and taught Big Sam, Joseph, and Gift about Chastity and it went pretty well. They are all really cool guys. After that we had some fall-threws so we ended up doing some tracting which turned out to be pretty successful. We met Richard, Lisa, and Domisa who are all siblings. They all had some good questions about Religion and Richard had even been taught about Joseph Smith and remembered some of the things that previous missionaries in Lusaka taught him. We are excited to go back and teach them again soon. After that we went to the church where we met up with an investigator that came to church the previous Sunday. Her name is Selena Banda. She is a little bit more on the quite side but she has a great desire to learn more about the Gospel. We taught her the Restoration and she accepted it very well.
Friday we met up with Bob and gave him his own copy of the Book of Mormon and he was very grateful. We only met with him briefly before we went to meet with Mishack. We didn't get much time with him either but we were able to set up a return appointment. We then had a few drops but we were still able to go and meet with a previous investigator named Jacob. We tried to finish the Restoration with him but his Uncle kept challenging everything we said so we had to leave in order to avoid "Bible Bashing." Later we were able to teach Shadrack again and it was very productive. We taught him, you guessed it... the Restoration haha I feel like that is all we teach. But it was a good lesson and Shadrack still has the desire to be baptized. He wants so badly to be a missionary just like us haha he is awesome.
Saturday we were able to attend an African wedding in the morning. That was something else! Haha there is a lot of shouting and just noise random noises that are apart of the wedding but it was still cool. I have decided I don't want to have one of those though haha. Anyway we spent a good chunk of the day trying to test video call home. It took a long time because the internet at our meetinghouse is pretty slow, so we had to go and buy some data and create a hotspot with some members help. Then I spent a while preparing a talk on the Restoration that I had to give the next day in Sacrament meeting.
Sunday morning I got the opportunity to baptize Phillis Mutiti! It was such a neat experience for me to preform my first baptism on mission. Phillis looked so happy after she was baptized. It was actually pretty funny haha as soon as I brought her back up out of the water she gasped for air. I am assuming it was a combination of the cold water and the fact that Zambians are afraid of water, so anyway it literally took her breath away! She was then confirmed a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints by Elder Lusk just a couple hours later during our Sacrament meeting. It was a great day at church! We also had two investigators at church. Selena came again and a new guy we met named Eric. Turns out Eric was already introduced to the church by one of our members who is actually our Branch Mission Leader. He is actually way cool and I think he will progress well. He is a student at the Copperbelt University and is very interested in our church. He actually reached out to us because he already knows a lot about us.
Well that about wraps up this week. It turned out pretty good. Not the best but good. I am just so glad that I was able to video call my family!! It was so good to see you all again! Well until next week. Sending love from Africa!! Merry Christmas again!! 🎄🎁🎄🎁🎄🎁
