Elder Joshua Robbins

Week 35: Alma 37:35

Brothers and Sisters,

This week was week 11 in the field for Elder Robbins, this means that as a part of his training, he was the senior companion. It was cool to see his progress since the beginning of the transfer. He was able to make and follow plans, talk with the people that we're teaching, and find other people to teach. Next week is a transfer week, I think that we'll both stay here in Uruguaiana, but it isn't for certain.

This week we've been working a lot with Nathan and Gustavo, they are friends and they both want to be baptized. The hardest part is that their moms aren't sure if they will let them be baptized. We've been working with them for a while and if everything goes well, they'll be baptized this week. This week we also worked a lot with Nathaniel and Talita, they are siblings that also want to be baptized. We are also working with their mom to see if she will let them be baptized. It's a bit frustrating to see so many people progressing and only being held back by their parents, but I know that the Lord has power to soften the hearts of these moms so that these children can follow the example of Jesus and be baptized.

From Phone Call:
Nathan is the boy they have been teaching for a while (age 10). He loves to go to church and attends regularly. While they were teaching him, Gustavo (age 15), the neighbor came by. Nathan was having a hard time sitting and listening to the lesson being taught. Gustavo stepped in and helped with the lesson and keeping Nathan interested. From this Gustavo got interested in learning about the church. He too had been taking the lessons, reading the Book of Mormon, and would like to be baptized. The parents are not interested and Preston was planning to ask if Gustavo had his parent’s permission to be baptized later this day…we will have to wait until next week to see if they were okay with it.
Alma 37:35
O, remember, my son, and learn in thy youth; yea, learn in thy youth to keep the commandments of God.
