Wow this week was sweet! And Cold! So we were able go and teach Christy this week and help her with her goal of quitting smoking! She went from 8 cigarettes a day for 15 days to 6 cigarettes for the next 15 days and she's doing really well! She's starting to gain more confidence in herself, which is something she really needs! Oddly enough, she started reading in the Book of Mormon (by herself, awesome!) and she's been reading in the war chapters in Alma, caught me off guard, but still good! She thinks it crazy how Moroni is able to be so smart and how he was able to dominate the Lamanites! We text her everyday giving her motivational quotes that she can do hard things and she likes it a lot! She's been sick for the last week and she told us that it hurts so bad to smoke, so she's been able to achieve the daily goal, which is awesome! The bad thing about it though, is that she's too sick to come to Church, so it has its ups and downs.
We were able to talk to Anthony, her son for a little bit when she was at work. He's been struggling with his dad, who lives a couple hours away. His dad, Ike, is doing things that he shouldn't be doing and it isn't setting a good example for him or his little brother. The dad has custody over Anthony and his little brother, but they are living with Christy. So if Christy upsets the dad, he could take the kids away from in a heartbeat. Christy has take Ike to court multiple times to try and get custody, but she's failed every time. Anthony was arguing with his dad on the phone for a solid 30 minutes, and Christy called us up to go and just talk with him. We talked to him for a while and it's just good to be there for him! He's also helping his mom to try and quit smoking. Like one time he took his mom's cigarettes and threw them in the toilet
Melba is starting to progress again and they are gong to a disability lawyer to see if they can get married and still get benefits. We're excited for them! They are still coming to church, which is great, and she reads everyday! I was able to give her a blessing on Sunday for an appointment that she has today to see if she can qualify for anything so that was a sweet experience!
Yesterday, we got to go down to Lubbock for a Jingle Jam, where the North half of the mission meets up and they have a big talent show, lunch and stuff. A couple Elders and I did a song together and I played the guitar while they sang, and it was pretty good! I got to see all of my friends that are serving in other parts of the mission and it was a great time! I would send pictures, but the library we're at doesn't except flash drives in the computes, so I'll have double pictures next week!
President Heap showed us a movie at the Jingle Jam and it was called "It's a Wonderful Life". I was able to reflect on how wonderful of a like that I have been blessed with. I've been given a wonderful family that loves me and supports me in everything that I do. I have been blessed with friends that are participating in the same great work that I'm doing and I know that they are being blessed for it as well! And my friends that are preparing to preach the Gospel, I know that the Lord will sanctify their work. I love you all and have a very Merry Christmas and be sure to reflect upon the true meaning of Christmas! The meaning we carry throughout the year.
Ponderize question: There may have not been any room in the inn for Jesus, but have you made room for him? Love you all!
