Week 94 Missionary Email

Hello everyone!!

3 exchanges this week and a big earthquake and we are finished with another week in Lima North.

3 Exchanges: We knocked out 3 exchanges this week! The first one was with the APs in their area, the second was with a 4-foot tall Peruvian, and another Élder from Utah. To be short, I didn't even recognize my companion at the end of the week.

6.1 Earthquake: Yesterday, I felt a 6.1 magnitude earthquake. I was getting my socks to get out the door to go to church when right then it started to shake, and I stood still for about 5 seconds, because usually it stops after about 7 or 8 seconds. However, at about that 7 second mark, the earthquake got a lot stronger, and it was bad enough that I had to get the keys and get out as fast as I could, as we are on the third floor. During the earthquake, I heard plates fall and people screaming. The earthquake was so strong that the roof in the mission offices fell down! I think that they might have to do some Salt Lake temple-type renovations on that thing! As a result, we were waiting for people to come to church, and I usually like to send them texts to see if they can still come. They told me that they were too scared to leave their house for fear of strong aftershocks. Well, not a whole lot I could really do at that point.

Earthquakes Come: There could not be another better word that could describe this week than earthquake. With 3 exchanges, physical earthquake, and our friends constantly fighting against temptation, it felt like my schedule was just never firm, and always changing and moving. When disaster strikes, or the earth shakes, we really get to see who people are and how they react. Even though we might live in a crazy world, and worldly things are constantly trying to drag us down, we cannot afford to be moved to and from by Satan. We have to stay strong in who we are and who we always have been. We cannot afford to let ourselves be cookiecutters with the rest of the world. We must build our Foundations firm in Jesus Christ, and the disaster and storm clouds will eventually pass.
