Week 21 Missionary Email
Hello everyone!
A bit of a shorter week this week as we went to the temple on Tuesday, but a very fun week nonetheless!
A Break From The Chaos: I have always loved going into any and every temple. Each temple has a special feeling that you can't feel anywhere else but in the Lord's house. But, I gotta say that I do love the feeling of a freshly dedicated temple even better! Every house of the Lord is different, but this one is very unique because it was in a completely different country (I don't know how much I'm supposed to tell, but). The actors in the videos were all Latinos and all the filming took place in South America. It got my wheels turning (in Africa, are all the actors African? Hong Kong, Asian?). I don't know, but it was pretty cool. Then the feeling in the Celestial room. Kinda crazy how you can walk out the door, and hear immediate and constant honking, loud motors, and megaphones trying to sell stuff, but in the Celestial room, you could here a pin drop.
God Sees Your Sacrifice: On the mission, I have learned that the more effort you give, the more blessings you receive. Not just on the mission, but life in general. Here are two miracles that happened this week that demonstrate this principle:
We had scheduled to do the baptismal interviews for Mía, Moisés, and Andrew on Thursday at the church building, and we were very excited! However, there was a "miscommunication" between the parents (don't think the Mom is super supportive), and the Mom said that she couldn't bring the kids to the church. Remember that this family is kinda dirt poor. They don't have church clothes, and they basically live inside a wooden box. Despite all of this, the Dad (Humberto) LEAVES WORK to bring the kids to the church. He said that his boss is a little mad, but he said that there is always time for God. His kids are getting baptized Tuesday. Sacrifice of a worldly thing for eternal blessings.
Fasting is never easy. However, as a missionary in the Perú Lima North Misssion, it's especially never easy. We are constantly hiking up giant hills in the burning heat, and when we don't have fuel, it makes it almost impossible. Through much fatigue and dizziness, I made it to the end of the fast. We ate at a member's house, and it is was the usual two GIANT plates of chicken, potatoes, and rice. I could barely finish half of the first due to my stomach telling me that it hurts. When we got back to do studies, falling asleep on the desk was a sign that I needed to take a quick nap. After the nap, I only felt worse. But, I got up my strength to go to our appointments, thinking that blessings always come when we sacrifice. Well, both our lessons canceled. Walking back sick, frustrated, and a bit beaten down, I was again questioning God's plan (guys I gotta work on this). Then, a dude yells at us: "Élderes!!" This could mean 3 things. 50% chance a member wanting to say hi, 48% chance crazy dude encounter (get on his knees and worship us, try to tell us which streets are safe, or that he will protect us), 2% chance of miracle. This one fell in the latter category. This is literally what he said: "I just came in from out-of-town. I was meeting with the missionaries and wanted to get baptized. But, I had to move surprisingly for work. Here is my name and number. I want to meet with you Thursday at 8 to set another baptismal date. Thanks for stopping!" Every time. Sorry Heavenly Father, I should have known.
