Week 10.5 Missionary Email

Hello everyone!!!
Thank you so much for tuning in to my email this week!!! The mission has already changed me in so many ways and I love to write home to talk about my experiences!!!
Missionary's nightmare: One night, I was preparing to knock on a door just like normal. We knocked, and after a couple of seconds a bearded man (probably in his 40s, maybe 30s if you compared him to my Dad) slammed open the door and screamed at the top of his voice: "WHAT DO YOU WANT?!!!!!" Flustered and absolutely terrified out of my brains I slowly closed the panel door and timidly said: "Have a good one sir" Instead this man slammed the panel door into my poor trainer's hand and said. "I'M JUST TRYING TO PROTECT THIS NEIGHBORHOOD!!" and megaphoned all of the words at us that are not okay in any circumstance. We just walked away, the man closed the door and we just knocked another door across the street. Pretty sure this man was definitely deranged because when we left this man was still screaming at the top of his lungs for a solid 3 minutes. Luckily we were able to regain the Spirit, and we ended up finding some really cool people who were looking for God.
Transfers: Elder Poulsen left to Owings Mills, Maryland, and we got another trainee right out of the MTC. His name is Elder Sorenson (another Utah boy) and he is a happy dude that works super hard. I am excited to spend these next couple of weeks with him before I leave to Perú. I will also be leading out some Spanish work when my trainer goes on exchanges so that will be pretty exciting.
Spiritual story: The first night that Elder Sorenson was here, we had one hour left in the day and we decided to pray to figure out where to go. I said a prayer and my trainer and I both felt that we should go visit a couple of people. So, we visited the first person, and a different person came to the door, and he said he wanted to gain a better relationship with God. We then went to the other guy, he didn't answer, so we walked back to our car. On the way, I invited someone to church. She said "what church?" Turns out this woman's son was a member of our church and that when they lived in the Bronx, his "Mormon" friends would get him off the streets and would do nightly scripture study with them. She said that she always felt good when they came over to her house. She was super interested and ate up all of the information that we gave her. Notice how the plan that we had did not go according to plan - at all. However, we trusted the prompting he gave us, and he made it work - his way. We had no idea that this was going to happen, and we were even a little bit frustrated when neither of the people we meant to visit answered. But in the end, we found people that were more ready to receive the Gospel. Sometimes God gives us direction, and we follow his will, but it doesn't turn out how we thought it would. However, it all works out in the end. Romans 8:28 "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God."
