Week 2 Missionary Email

Hello everyone!
Thank you for tuning in for my mission email this week!! Being a missionary has been literally such a blessing in my life! I love to write home and tell you about my experiences!
One hard thing: sickness. Around here, it's called the "Second Week Curse". My whole district has been affected by this nasty bug. They really should invent an "MTC vaccine" haha! It is very hard to maintain a busy missionary schedule while being weighed down with sickness. I am glad I was trained by my parents to push through hard things! That really came in handy this week. I learned from them that you need to get out of bed everyday and give 110 percent all the time, even if your body can only give you about 30. I made it through and I seemed to turn a corner yesterday and am starting to feel better.
Couple of fun things: We started language immersion this week. This means that once we enter our Spanish classroom we can only speak Spanish. If we speak English, we have to do push-ups (I never had to do push-ups haha)! It has been fun to apply all that I have learned. I still have a long way to go, but I actually knew a lot more than I thought I did. Another fun thing I did this week was playing sand volleyball. Our district has made a habit of going to the courts daily and it is fun because all of us can participate, even though we are all at different skill levels. I also figured out how to block this week, and now everyone is scared of me hahahaha!!!!!
One other fun thing: I can't believe that I haven't mentioned one of the best parts of the MTC, but I have LOVED the MTC choir! We have sung "I Will Walk With Jesus" and "He Lives! He Lives!" It is so surreal singing with so many people striving to praise and follow our Savior. We also only sing in front of general authorities. We have sang in front of K. Brett Nattress (last week) and Marcus D. Nash of the Seventy. I hope I get to sing in front of an apostle, that has always been a dream of mine.
One spiritual thing: During Spanish class on Saturday, our teacher had to leave for a meeting. So, she asked me to teach a lesson for an hour. This TERRIFIED me. First of all, I was at the peak of my sickness. I couldn't get two sentences out without feeling the urge to cough. Second, it was in a language that I could barely speak, and one that the class really didn't understand yet. She also asked us to read a passage of scripture and talk about what we think of it. We had never read the scriptures in Spanish before?!!!!! Before the next hour, I said a giant prayer in my head that I could at least get through the discussion and so that the other missionaries wouldn't get too rowdy. When I was teaching the lesson, I felt increased strength and energy in my body, along with a greatly enhanced understanding of the language. I was able to get through the discussion, and we were able to report to our Spanish teacher what we had learned in the scripture passage. There is no way I could have done this on my own with the level of Spanish that I know. The Gift of Tongues is real.
Hope you are doing well!! Thanks for reading!!!!
