Monika's Baptism

Hey Everyone!

This week was pretty interesting. We really didn't have a lot of time to do much, because of interviews and Zone Conference, but it was good. I really liked this Zone Conference it was quite different from many of the Zone Conferences I've had on my mission. We talked a lot about faith and what it is. I felt very spiritually uplifted and I feel like my understanding of faith was greatly increased. We talked about how there are two types of faith. The first type is defined in Alma 32: 21
"And now as I said concerning faith—faith is not to have a perfect knowledge of things; therefore if ye have faith ye hope for things which are not seen, which are true."
This type of faith is more of a beginning faith for our friends and those who are starting their journey in the gospel. They have a particle of faith to experiment upon the word of god, and it grows from there with their patience and dilligence as they continue to study and pray. The second type of faith comes from Hebrews 11: 1 "Now faith is the substance (or the assurance JST) of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." This second type of faith is power. It is the accumuclation of evidences in our life from excersing the faith in Alma 32. It is the understanding that the assurances or the promises given to us by the scriptures and the prophets for our dilligence in keeping the commanments will come to pass. It is understanding from our past experiences or evidences that God blesses us for our faith and will also work miracles according to our faith. As we continue in this kind of faith we gain the power talked about in the scriptures when God tells Nephi in Heleman 10:5
"And now, because thou hast done this with such unwearyingness, behold, I will bless thee forever; and I will make thee mighty in word and in deed, in faith and in works; yea, even that all things shall be done unto thee according to thy word, for thou shalt not ask that which is contrary to my will."

This week was also awesome, because Monika was baptized in Brasov. I talked to her and she was really sad that Elder Bird and I couldn't be there to support her in person, but at least we were able to call and send our love. She is awesome and she had a lot of love and support from everyone else around her. It was an amazing baptism and I was really happy to see all the people that love her come and support her. The Hettingers were also there, which was great. Elder Thomson was also able to go down from Oradea to baptize her :)
