Nephites = Cambas

"Yea, with our strong force, or with a part of our strong force, we did surround, by night, the city Cumeni, a little before they were to receive a supply of provisions...
At length their provisions did arrive, and they were about to enter the city by night. And we, instead of being Lamanites, were Nephites; therefore, we did take them and their provisions.
And notwithstanding the Lamanites being cut off from their support after this manner, they were still determined to maintain the city.

And it came to pass that not many days had passed away before the Lamanites began to lose all hopes of succor; therefore they yielded up the city unto our hands; and thus we had accomplished our designs in obtaining the city Cumeni."
- Alma 57:8-12

That is my evidence that the Nephites are the ancestors of the Bolivians. Today a 35 day strike ended here in Santa Cruz!! That means 35 days of nearly every road being blocked off and every store closed. It has made things TOUGH, but I'm glad to say it's over, and we saw lots of miracles this last month!

Over the last 2 weeks we planned, planned again, and then canceled a mission-wide visit from Elder Pino. Guess we'll have to give him avocado with sugar in January.

Christmas is in the air here, and I love it! I can't believe it's already the end of November! Hope y'all had an awesome Thanksgiving! We had probably the worst turkey sandwiches ever, BUT it was improvement from the french fries and eggs from last year! Shoutout Elder Haynie

We're working with the super awesome Ramirez family right now! Last week we went to pick them up for church and to our surprise they were already at the church! The dad, Antonio, comes from a family of all members, but he hadn't been to church in 15 years. Tania, the mom, was always taught to have faith in Christ from her dad. Since her dad passed away she's felt like there was more for her to learn. Anddd Matias is their super cool 15 year old son who LOVES going to church! He's excited to get baptized and be able to receive the priesthood.

A lesson that we had with them on the restoration made me ponder on the power and influence of the Holy Ghost. Two of their neighbors were having parties and that means loud constant music. We tried to ignore it and started the lesson. As we got to the first vision we showed them the video, and right when God and Jesus Christ appear to Joseph Smith the party music stopped! There wasn't a single noise that could be heard besides the video. There's always noise here in the city!

That miracle allowed The Spirit to be felt super strong! One of the main functions of The Spirit is to testify of The Father and of The Son. That's why The Spirit is always so strong while teaching the first vision. Not only because it's true, and not only because Joseph Smith really was a prophet, but because God The Father and His Son Jesus Christ literally appeared to and talked with Joseph. An event that no other religion can claim!

Having and recognizing that calm yet powerful testimony of The Spirit plants a seed in our heart. When we choose to invite that Spirit into our lives by being worthy and obedient, that seed grows roots and it grows the fruits that lead us to making essential changes in our lives that bring TRUE joy!

D&C 11:
12 And now, verily, verily, I say unto thee, put your trust in that Spirit which leadeth to do good—yea, to do justly, to walk humbly, to judge righteously; and this is my Spirit.
13 Verily, verily, I say unto you, I will impart unto you of my Spirit, which shall enlighten your mind, which shall fill your soul with joy.

What can you do to better invite and trust in the Spirit?

Que tengan un día bendecido!
Elder Barker
