Rajahmundry, India

Elder Datla and Elder Pandian

"Toto I don't think we are in Fresno anymore..."

After 24 hours of travel I made it! I'M IN INDIA! I flew from California - Utah - Atlanta - Paris and then to India!

When we arrived in India we had to take off our tie and nametags and all of us missionaries had to enter at different times to try and make it so the government workers wouldn't stop us. It didn't work haha they stopped every single one of us missionaries and began questioning all of us about who we are and what we are going to do in India. We all tried answering his questions but he wasn't really satisfied with our answers but he eventually let us through!

We finally got to our mission home and we met President and Sister Thomas and as we are eating dinner President Thomas gets a call. He steps out of the room and 15 minutes later he comes back in and tells us how the Church just selected the location of the temple that was announced. It was decided that it would be built exactly where we were sitting!! So he showed us a photo of what it's gonna look like and we all got to experience that together it was awesome!

President then told me I would be serving in a village called Rajahmundry where I'll have to learn a language called Telagu and where all the food is SUPER HOT. I'll also have to take a propeller plane to it early in the morning.

The next day I jumped on the plane and arrived in Rajahmundry. I then was taken to my apartment where we share it with 5 other elders (all natives). I met my companions, Elder Datla and Elder Pandian, they are zone leaders so I'm with Zone Leaders again hahaha.

The next day we got up and went out to get breakfast and we have to take these things called "autos" they are pretty much motor bikes with little attachments like and roof and extra seats hahaha. As we are getting out we are all paying him 10 rupees and he tries to make me pay 200 he called it a "foreigner fee" and my companions went off on him. I'm not sure what they said because it was all in Telagu but I don't think it was very nice and he drove off.

As we started walking around all the village people would come up and ask for photos with me and all the kids would touch my hair and would come up and say "hey bro happy birthday". I'm not sure where they learned that but it's pretty entertaining having 30 kids a day saying happy birthday too you hahaha. I've taken at least 40 photos, since being here, with natives because they haven't ever seen a white person I guess hahaha.

There are so many crazy animals here I've seen Elephants, Monkeys, Cows, Camels and TONS of stray dogs. It's pretty crazy only eating with hands haha. My trainers have been trying to teach me and I think I'm just starting to get the hang of it!

In the apartment they had a little party for me and made me brownies and gave me this soda here called "thums up" it's super good actually haha. They showed me my bed which is just a mattress on the floor. I'm so grateful to be a missionary in India.

I love this church and all the feelings it brings me.
